Chipolte Mexican Grill Facing Discrimination and Wage and Hour Class Action Lawsuit

- by

San Francisco, CA: Chipotle Mexican Grill is facing an employment class action lawsuit brought by a former manager who alleges racial discrimination, wage and hour violations, and being denied advancement opportunities.

Plaintiff Janeka Samuels claims that Chipolte Mexican Grill is in violation of various state and federal labor laws and that she endured harassment from her former supervisor on a daily basis.

Janeka Samuels worked at both Chipotle restaurants in San Luis Obispo during a four-year period, and was a manager when she was terminated in August 2013.

In the lawsuit filed March 4 in San Luis Obispo Superior Court, Samuels, Samuels alleges that she and other employees endured daily harassment from her former supervisor, Ben DeBilzan.

Samuels is suing the Denver-based chain and DeBilzen for an unspecified amount of general damages, wage loss and attorney fees. She is represented by the law firm of Arias, Ozzello & Cignac.
