Sony Corporation, Pioneer Corporation, Philips Electronics, the 3C DVD Patent Pool, and LG Electronics of South Korea

An amended class action lawsuit has been filed against Sony Corporation, Pioneer Corporation, Philips Electronics, the 3C DVD Patent Pool, and LG Electronics of South Korea on behalf of purchasers of DVD players. The suit alleges price fixing, unlawful tying, group boycott, violations of the California Unfair Competition Law and conspiracy to monopolize in violation of the US Sherman Act in regards to prices for DVD players.

"We see these violations of the law as a concerted effort to control the DVD player market resulting in higher prices and fewer products," states plaintiff's lead attorney. "It is the consumer that ultimately ends up paying for these unlawful acts and 3C must change its philosophy away from licensing manufacturers."
