FedEx Drivers

Chicago, IL: (Nov-06-07) The National Labor Relations Board brought charges against FedEx Corp., alleging that the company had unfair labor practices. The suit was filed on behalf of the Teamsters union, representing five drivers. The lawsuit claimed the company illegally harassed and intimidated drivers and terminated the contracts of four of the five to prevent a local union election at the Northboro, Massachusetts, terminal of FedEx Home Delivery.

As part of a settlement reached, FedEx agreed to pay a total of $253,000 to five former or present drivers to resolve charges of unfair labor practices. Sources claimed that unlike the drivers at its main rival, United Parcel Service Inc. FedEx drivers do not have union representation. The lawsuit is said to be the latest development in a long-standing and often acrimonious dispute, in which the Teamsters have been trying to unionize FedEx terminals. [REUTERS: FEDEX DRIVERS]
