iPod Earphones and Hearing Damage
Recent reports note that the small earbud headphones distributed with most CD and MP3 headsets, specifically the Apple iPods, can cause permanent hearing damage.

Professionals are looking into the use of iPod earphones and the damage they can cause. It has been identified that earbuds increase the volume strength six to nine decibels by placing the speaker directly in the ear cavity compared to traditional headphones.

It has also been identified that many teenagers and young adults are listening to music at levels of 110 to 120 decibels. At these levels, hearing loss can occur in about an hour. It is also identified that people are using their iPods for extended periods of time, and at higher volumes. Many users complain that they cannot hear the music at lower levels due to background noise in the room. They increase the volume thus increasing the chances of hearing damage.

A possible class action alleging defective design of iPod headphones resulting in irreversible hearing loss and ear injuries is currently underway. If your hearing has been damaged, please submit your complaint below. Those who qualify have suffered hearing damage after using the headphones that come with any of the Apple iPods including the iPod nano and the iPod mini.
