Class action status is being sought in a lawsuit filed against the city of Oxford and Butler County in Ohio on behalf of Miami University students who have paid fees due to a diversion program for first-time misdemeanor alcohol offenses. The program allows offenders to avoid 180 days in jail by pleading guilty, doing community service and attending an education program. The program also requires a $100 contribution to law enforcement youth programs, which the lawsuit clims is illegal.
