Pat and Oscar's

Class action certification is being sought in a lawsuit filed against Sherman Oaks-based Worldwide Restaurant Concepts Inc., operators of the Pat and Oscar's restaurant chain. The suit alleges that the restaurants served contaminated lettuce, resulting in an E. coli outbreak in San Diego and Orange counties. The suit claims that the restaurants defendants "failed to adequately clean, prepare and test their salad food products for safety." Also named as defendants in the suit are Gold Coast Produce, who allegedly packaged the bad lettuce and Family Tree Produce, who allegedly distributed it. If granted class action status, the suit would cover the "hundreds, maybe thousands" of customers who ordered salads at the restaurants since Sept. 2, 2003. The suit seeks to refund the class members for their meals, as well as unspecified damages for those who became ill, as well as assurances to prevent an outbreak from happening again.
