Serzone, Canada

A class action lawsuit has been filed against the manufacturer of the anti-depressant Serzone, as well as the various manufactures of the generic versions of the drug called nefazodone hydrochloride. The suit was filed on behalf of Canadians who became ill or died as a result of taking this medication. The suit claims that according to reports published in 1994, there is an active compound in the drug that can cause serious and in some cases fatal liver injury, possibly leading to severe liver failure, organ transplantation and at times death. According to Health Canada, Serzone products will not be sold in Canada as of November 27, 2003.
