Stop 'N' Cash, Ontario

A class action lawsuit has been filed against Stop 'N' Cash payday on behalf of all persons who obtained payday loans from any Stop 'N' Cash store in Ontario on or after Jan. 1, 1998. The suit alleges that the company has been charging excessively high interest and fees on the loans it provides. The suit also claims that the insurance premium the company charges on top of the 48 per cent annual interest is a violation of the criminal code.

According to the plaintiff's attorney, "We believe that Stop 'N' Cash has specifically targeted the most vulnerable members of society and that it has gone to great lengths to manipulate the terminology of its payday loan agreements in an attempt to mask the true nature of the criminal interest it is charging."
