$15M Settlement Reached in Higher One Fees Class Action Lawsuit

This is a settlement for the Higher One Debit Card lawsuit.

Santa Clara, CA: A $15 million settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit against Higher One Holdings, Inc., Higher One, Inc., The Bancorp Bank, Wright Express Financial Services Corporation now known as WEX Bank, and Taylor Capital Group, Inc. ("Defendants") regarding the Fees charged and the marketing of the Higher One OneAccount.

A student at Ventura College in California filed an unfair business practices class action against Higher One alleging the company automatically creates bank accounts for students, without their knowledge, and unjustly charges fees associated with accessing student loan funds placed into those accounts.

In her lawsuit, student Sherry McFall claimed that Higher One charges onerous fees and misleads students, specifically, that Higher One's debit card is deceptively marketed as a school's recommended method for receiving financial aid refunds.

The Court granted final approval of the settlement on November 24, 2014. The clam review process has been completed and settlement benefit checks were mailed April 10, 2015. Eligible class members who filed claims were entitled to a cash payment from the $15,000,000 settlement fund.

I received a “check” from this settlement but it looks nothing like a check. It half the normal size and the back shows my address instead of it being blank and having a sign here section. I’ve had this 2015 and idk what to do about it.

I had higher a higher one account form 2010-2012 during the course of my training and a few other family member that I know of, I didn't even know anything about a settlement or anything until 2 weeks ago my daughter in law received and my niece got a check in the mail. I started looking into that information and found the site but of course I missed the deadline to file a claim do anyone know how those that were affected by Higher One that didn't get the chance to file a claim by the deadline can still file a claim?

Does this lawsuit involve all community colleges that distributed a Higher One debit card to students? Higher One charges $3.95 every semester for not checking in for the status of enrollment. They are ripping off students.

I moved and did not receive a claim form or information about this litigation for this lawsuit is their legal action that can be taken on my behalf to assert a claim towards the settlement
