Asurion and Lock/line

In a class action lawsuit brought against cell phone equipment insurance companies, Asurion and Lock/line, a US Judge granted preliminary approval to a nationwide class settlement involving 13 million customers. The lawsuit alleged the companies provided inadequate disclosures and replacement phones. The settlement ended three years of active litigation in Florida and California and in addition to the specific disclosure changes that will benefit all customers, the settlement also provides monetary relief. Roughly 15,000 customers who received a refurbished replacement phone valued at slightly less than the charged deductible will receive vouchers for a free replacement phone with a value of between $75 and $100. 13 million class members can each claim a $5, fully transferable phone card. The defendants have agreed to pay at least $1,500,000 in value to the class for those phone cards that are claimed. (Feb-07-07) [CELLULAR NEWS: INSURANCE SETTLEMENT]

Yes assurion screwed me over as well. I paid my insurance thru Verizon and they refused to replace my phone after it was lost stating my name was different than was on my driver's license even tho both last names were signed on the driver's license and had been that way before I ever purchased my first cell phone from Verizon. I then said then my insurance premiums should be refunded. They responded verizon was responsible and berizon said they were responsible. I might mention that 2 to 3yrs before when my phone broke theybwerent concerned about my name on drivers license and as stated I had been like that for yrs. I was back and forth with assurion and Verizon and without a phone for a month before I purchased a prepaid phone from another company and left Verizon bc my phone was never replaced. That phone was on a payment plan and I had 2 more payments to go for which I was turned into collections for and that happened after Verizon charged me for that month of service that I had no phone! I am a medically fragile senior citizen who lived alone and my cell phone was my only method to contact anyone in an emergency. It was a serious inconvenience and a breach of contract. Both Verizon and assurance should be held accountable. My assurion insurance was to replace the phone next day and they failed to replace phone period. I was never refunded for the premiums either.

I received a replacement phone from Asurion through Verizon Wireless in February 2019. I tried to switch cell phone service in November 2019 from Verizon to Xfinity Mobile. The iPhone 8 from Verizon was locked and Verizon representative said it was not locked by Verizon. It was locked through Asurion to Verizon Wireless service. The Asurion representative told us that they locked the phone to Verizon and it could not be unlocked. How can I own a cell phone purchased through Verizon that is locked by a third party to their service? Has anyone else had this problem?

I have had a very bad experience with Assurion. In brief, one time I paid the highest deductible and let them swap my phone because they didn't even offer the $30 repair of my own phone option. This option, as well as the "remote repair" may or may not be available at any given time. I shipped my phone and they said it could not be repaired by a screen replacement, that I would have to pay the much higher deductible. I demanded that they send my phone back and I have it in my possession now. It is completely repairable with cracked screen replacement. Someone PLEASE start another class action and shut this scam down.

Asurion has no respect for people. They received my I-phone 8 plus, sent me a refurbished malfunctioning replacement, which I sent back, and never returned my original phone after I canceled the plan. I was told my phone is now their possession. Then I was told they may have recycled it or “sent to another customer”.

Is it possible to join the class action?

I'm experiencing the same issues that have been noted here on the thread.

Given my current experiences with Asurion and what I am reading on others experiences it appears it is probable I am NOT going to get my issues with Asurion resolved. Wonder if I just give up but that is what Asurion want all of us to do right?

Simple cracked iPhone 8 Plus screen, phone is new and works well. Told that I have to buy a new phone for $200.00. They said they don’t have screens for iPhone 8+. Too many hours, lies, disconnections ‘they said ‘you live too far away’, ‘we never got your documentation (even though the email I received confirmed receipt of,), they said I don’t have the right address (it was correct). And MoRE. Unbelievable! The most corrupt company I e ever dealt with and I’m a provider in private practice and have to deal with insurance companies all the time. Absolutely corrupt!

More of the same. They are absolutely terrible. I have lost an entire workday being shuffled around. It is obvious that they have constructed their service to deny and defraud.

They are thieves. I paid the $199 deductible and got a new iPad, but NOTHING was ever said to me about having to return the old one. It was not repairable so I threw it away. Last week they charged my debit card $150 with no warning whatsoever. I called and asked them to refund the $150 since they had never told me to save the old device to return to them. The person I spoke with told me that I should have told them I didn’t have it anymore and they would have waived the $150 fee, but once it was charged then there was no refund. She transferred me to a supervisor or specialist who told me the same thing. I told her I wanted to talk to her supervisor and she hung up on me. I called Verizon and asked them to mediate and ask them to refund it to me. The Verizon representative was very kind and did her best to help but they told her no as well.

Class action anyone!? This company is an absolute nightmare! I can’t possibly regurgitate my story one more time because of all the times I’ve had to tell it to asurion reps. I’m so terribly disappointed.

Just spent 1 hr on the phone, 3 transfers to the "right" person, just to get denied a refund in the end. My son filled out the wrong claim for a refurbished crappy phone they sent him that had failed (power button, then battery - classic), the 1st of 2 such crappy phones they sent that failed within months. The final argument: that he had checked some legal box accepting the terms. On the wrong form. They agreed it was the wrong from + they agreed we shouldn't have paid the deductible ($89), but refused to refund us. Scam artists.

My original phone wouldn’t charge. So I was sent a replacement. It was refurbished. Screen wouldn’t work. Replacement # 2 has a broken phone. The speaker won’t work and the headset jack won’t work. Replacement #3 is on the way. My originally claim was 5 weeks ago so I’ve been without a phone for 6 weeks. Now I wait for phone #3. Had I known this insurance is for refurbished non tested phones, I would’ve purchased through Apple with Apple care.

I send my iPhone 5 18 weeks ago and I haven't got it back. they are scamming me by telling me to wait for it every 10 days.. I have been calling them about the issue and nothing has happen. this is stupid. why would Walmart afford a service like asurion.

I got a 'replacement' phone a month ago and it's so slow and shuts off. I will NEVER use Asurian again and I will let everyone I know what a scam the cell phone insurance is.

Most definitely time for a new class action against Asurion.

Time to start a new class action suit against them.
I just spend a day trying to get a replacement phone. They expect me to mail in my phone, which is a business account, and wait for them to repair it rather then them sending me a replacement.

I filled out the forms for the Wineesa Cole vs.Assurion back in December 2015. My claim was for 3 phones I paid for during the period stated..I have not received anything yet..

Asurion Wireless is a sleazy company who has been known to send it's customers sub par refurbished phones that often have issues and who also fraudulently charges many past customers' accounts seemingly at random. It is very surprising that this company is still in operation after years of known fraudulent charges and poor business ethics. If you don't believe me, simply search the term Asurion Wireless fraud, asurion wireless charges, or asurion replacement phone reviews, into any search engine. The only reason I am writing this is that I want consumers to be aware of what they're in for and to protect them. I and people I know personally have unfortunately been the victim of these issues and I feel compelled to do something about this. The fraudulent charges were the last straw.

Back in December of 2006 I went through Asurion to replace my cell phone. They sent me a refurbished phone that had a broken camera. I called to have it replaced, and they kept putting me off and telling me to call back and basically stalling me until my warranty period was up. They then refused to send me another phone without me paying for it. Meanwhile, I keep paying my monthly insurance fee, and I lost my phone August 26th of this year. I dreaded going through the same thing, but I needed a new phone and could not afford to rplace it without the insurance. I had to pay a $70 deductible again, and I was stuck for 2 days without a phone because the quickest they would ship it was 2 day service. The phone they gave me was scratched when I got it, and 1 day after i had it, I was without signal for 9 hours before it shut itself off and never turned back on. They were extremely rude to me on the phone telling me that I had broken it, but that they would send me out a new phone to replace it. (this was on a Monday) I was to recieve the phone on Tuesday. Tuesday came and went and the only thing I received from Asurion was a letter stating that I had exceeded my claim amount for a 12 month period and that no more phones could be claimed through them. I finally got my phone today (wednesday). If this one does not break within the 7 day warranty, but breaks 10 days from now, I am out of luck for a replacement. I think this company is horrible, and I would like my deductible back from both December, and August. I feel that their calim to send a replacement phone that is as good, or better than the one I had was never honored.
