Coppertone Consumer Fraud Class Action Receives Settlement Approval


This is a settlement for the lawsuit.

Los Angeles, CA: A settlement has received final approved in the consumer fraud class action lawsuit pending against Coppertone sunscreen and its manufacturer Merck & Co.

District Judge Peter G. Sheridan granted final approval of the settlement effectively ending the allegations that Merck used deceptive marketing practices and made false claims regarding its Coppertone sunscreen products.

According to the settlement terms, class members include consumers who purchased Coppertone sunscreen products in the United States between July 31, 2006 and October 5, 2012. Eligible class members who submitted a Claim Form by March 4, 2013 will receive a cash payment. The amount of this class action settlement award will be based on the number of eligible claimants.

Additionally, the settlement also stipulates that Merck discontinue using the terms "sunblock,""waterproof,""sweatproof,""all day"and/or "all day protection"in the labeling, advertising, marketing or promotion of all Coppertone sunscreen products.
