California Department of Housing and Community Development.

A $600,000 settlement has been reached in the class action lawsuit filed on behalf of farm workers who lived in state-run migrant housing projects in Yuba City and Williams in 1996 and 1997. The suit alleged that the department unlawfully doubled the rent in 21 migrant camps with no advanced notice to the residents during the 1996 and 1997 growing seasons. (Aug-28-04)
