Santa Clara, CA:
Further to a high-profile consumer fraud
lawsuit filed by Kering SA alleging Alibaba is profiting from the sale of goods that infringe on its brands, including Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent, there are calls for Alibaba Group Holding Ltd.' Taobao shopping website to be put back on the US government' "Notorious Markets"list.
TaoBao and Alibaba are well known for selling counterfeit merchandise and have so far been unwilling to make an serious effort to clean up the sites after having been removed from the federal government' watch list in 2012.
According to the American Apparel & Footwear Association, which counts Levi Strauss & Co. and Under Armour Inc. as members, Alibaba has done little to stop the problem.
