Chicago Transit Authority

On July 11, 2006 the Blue Line commuter train derailed during the afternoon rush hour; the last car of the eight car train came off track. The derailment sparked a smoky fire. As many as 1,000 people were on board and about 150 were hospitalized. A class action lawsuit has been filed against the authority claiming officials were negligent in the way they operated and maintained the rail system. The lawsuit claims passengers suffered broken bones, smoke inhalation and some stress related issues after the accident.
