Broward School District

A lawsuit has been filed and is seeking class action status on behalf of 10,300 substitutes, part-timers and temporary workers alleging unfair retirement benefit restrictions. The lawsuit claims Broward School District does not contribute to the same type of retirement account for part-time compared to full-time employees. The district withholds money from part-time workers for pension benefits, but it is invested into low-interest accounts. In contrast, full-time employee deductions are invested into a state matching program that allows them to gain more profits and therefore retire earlier.
