State of California, Department of Education, Board of Education and State Superintendent Jack O'Connell

Five high school students from Richmond, CA have filed a class action lawsuit against the state of California alleging high school exit exams are unfair and illegal. The lawsuit claims the state of California violated its equal protection clause by not providing adequate instruction to students. The class also claims the state unfairly distributed money designated to help students pass the test and did not adequately research alternative tests. Students who would otherwise graduate may be denied a diploma, thereby depriving them of their rights to public education.
