Chrysler Facing Defective Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) Class Action Lawsuit

- by

Los Angeles, CA: A defective automotive class action lawsuit has been filed in federal court against Chrysler Group LLC. The lawsuit seeks to hold the Big Three automobile maker accountable for economic losses suffered by owners and passengers of Chrysler cars and trucks that stalled, caught fire or sustained other potentially life-endangering malfunctions due to a faulty onboard computer.

The lawsuit alleges that Chrysler knew about and fraudulently concealed the defectiveness of its Totally Integrated Power Module - TIPM, for short. Chrysler sought as far back as 2005 to hide the magnitude of the TIPM defect from consumers and initiated only limited vehicle recalls, the complaint alleges.

Despite knowing about the defect, Chrysler continued installing faulty TIPMs in vehicles until the 2014 model year, according to the complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.

The TIPM is an integral component of many Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep models on the road today, the device controls and distributes power to all of a vehicle's electrical functions. Prone to sudden failure, a vehicle's TIPM poses a serious safety issue, placing the driver and passengers at risk of harm, the complaint indicates.

A failed TIPM causes malfunctioning of airbags, headlights, brakes, horns, wipers, windows, door locks and other components that rely on electrical functions, Weitz & Luxenberg explained. Worse, a failed TIPM can cause a vehicle's engine to shut down unexpectedly while driving at high speeds.

"Millions of consumers who have bought into this brand have suffered harm because of Chrysler and its faulty Totally Integrated Power Module," the complaint alleges.

Owners of defective TIPM-equipped Chrysler vehicles suffer economic losses in part because the device is expensive to replace, costing upward of $1,000. Also, because of the sheer number of vehicles requiring a new TIPM, consumers are forced to make do without their vehicles for many days and even weeks while their vehicles sit in the shop and wait for a replacement TIPM to be shipped. Adding insult to injury, the defect caused many motorists to incur unnecessary costs to replace non-defective parts that malfunctioned because of the faulty TIPM.

Plaintiffs are represented by Weitz & Luxenberg and Baron & Budd.

2012 Chrysler T&C engine suddenly stopped while idling in park. Would not start the TPMS warning light came on about two weeks before this occurred. The van also would not shift down to a lower gear when depressing the accelerator pedal, nor would it shift to the 6th gear. The shifting problem occurred months in advance to this problem did some research and read that it could be the oil pressure sensor so I replaced that part and nothing. After the van stalled in the car port I tried many times to start it, the warning lights for the traction control, engine, battery, and transmission temperature are on. I bought a new PCM programmed to the VIN, cost $200. I put the PCM in and still nothing, having concerns that it may be a defective battery I decided to purchase a new battery, this cost me an additional $180. Still nothing, can’t read the OBDII. When I plug a scanner in I get a message that it can not communicate with the computer, I’ve tried two high end scanners and results were the same with both. I am stuck with an unused vehicle in my carport with no funds to buy a TIPM. Why is that this part cost the same as my mortgage, it’s depressing and very much aggravating.

My engine will not stop running on my 2016 Chrysler Town and Country S Model. I can take the key out completely and the engine continues to run. The dealership is attributing it as a faulty TIPM Module. the cooling fan shuts off and then the car could overheat because the engine is still running. This is wildly infuriating that Chrysler has made a bad part. I haven’t even made my first payment on the vehicle and already a huge costly repair. Next time I’m buying a Toyota Sienna.

Same issues as many folks here have stated they are having. Many warning light indicators illuminated on dash instrument panel. My 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan will intermittently crank and crank and crank but will not start. I am a 70 year old widowed woman without disposable income available to cover expenses that should responsibly be covered a by multi billion dollar corporation (4th largest automobile company in the world after recently acquiring Fiat and Peugeot I believe) whom I've been a customer of. The Chrysler corporation needs to be held accountable one way or another. They obviously are not honorable enough to do so on their own. The human life factor has not yet exceeded the cost of them to recall the TIPM on every vehicle in which they are installed. Upon mentioning that, I shall mention this. My 16 year old granddaughter, whom lives with me has also been relying on this vehicle. I personally would not want to be placed in a scenario of traveling at any speed and have all systems fail while. And I have over 50 years driving experience. I do not want to imagine my granddaughter having to navigate through that scenario with less than 1 year driving experience. Horrifying! Don't exactly know what I am going to do? Can't afford another vehicle. Conscience will eat me up getting rid of it knowing that I am just deferring this peril to someone else. I, unlike the Chrysler corporation, do have a conscience. My son currently has my vehicle and is trying to get parts to get it back operational as it died Friday night. No power whatsoever. Will not accept a charge. Key fob stuck in the ignition. Hit Chrysler in their pockets like they are hitting their customers in theirs. Promise you this... Chrysler has lost at least 3 generations of possible customers in my family. Remember the saying "Make a customer happy and maybe they'll tell a person or two. Make a customer angry and they'll tell everyone that will listen"? I'm ready to hold seminars.

We have a 2011 Chrysler Town and Country that has been having the same issues. The lights would flicker, it shut off while driving down the road, my wife, I, and my kids got stranded because it wouldn't start. So I had to walk 4 miles back to our house to get our other car. The dealership diagnosed it that the TIPM needed to be replaced and ballpark cost would start at $1,500. We both work and have 3 kids. We can't afford to do this. Chrysler knew about this and didn't do anything about it. Now people like us are suffering the consequences of buying from them.

My 2011 Chrysler Town and Country has been having issues for years and no one could figure out what was going on until recently. The TIPM is bad and needs to be replaced. I just recently found this is a common issue with this particular vehicle. My car would not start and I was even left stranded on a 100 degree day with three kids in the van. I'm lucky it did not stall while I was driving. Now I will have to pay a little over $1500.00 to replace the TIPM. Why has this not been recalled? It is happening to a lot of Town and Country owners and it is a huge safety issue!

This has been the most confounding and frustrating vehicle I've ever owned. We've suffered every issue read in countless forums. We're now stuck with a dead vehicle we'll need to scrap at a great loss, or incur considerable costs to install a new engine. Camshaft & lifters, TIPM issues, uncommon fuel pump problems, quits at high speed - this thing is a piece of crap. Expensive to own, unreliable and dangerous to drive. Goodbye Dodge.

School trained automotive technician... I've been stranded in my 2014 Town and Country 3 times now. The last time it was -10° outside and I had my wife and newborn in the vehicle. Chrysler, thank God everyone is fine. (13 years Marine Corps infantry veteran as well.....just saying)

I assume tipm will be diagnosis next week at the dealer. Have replaced starter 2-3 times, 4 batteries, alternator. Car was dying on me while driving with 5 kids. This is a major issue. If they tell me it’s tipm next week when I take it in I will be back on this site to contact an attorney.

I just replaced the TIPM last year for the second time in my 2004 Ram 2500. It just started the same crap again a few days ago, the passenger side low beam won't come on. The first time I replaced it was because the high beams wouldn't come on, the second time none of the lights except the fog lamps would come on, and now the low beam on the passenger side won't come on. I checked the bulb and its good so I know the problem because I have dealt with it twice before.

I have a 2008 Chrysler Town & Country that has been not but problems for the last 2 years. The starter has been replace as we thought that the reason for the intermittent non-start was the starter had gone out. After replacing the starter with a new one we had the old one tested and found there was nothing wrong with the old one. So we did some more research and found out that one of the issues could be the TIPM going out and based on the issues we were having with the intermittent non-start and the van acting like it was possessed (IE: horn going off, doors opening on their own, light going on and off) it sounded like the TIPM was malfunctioning. So we replace the TIPM. However, with this issue that we had been having with the TIPM it had short circuited the PCM control module and we were now having an issues with the wire harness. Mind you all this time the van would not through any error codes as to why it was not still not starting. It has been almost 3 months since the van has been in the shop and the new TIPM, PCM control module and wire harness are still not communicating with each other causing the van to not start. The service center that has the van has been told by Chrysler manufacturing to take the van's interior out and go wire by wire to try to find the issue with the van. As of right now the total cost of repairs are over $3050.

2013 T & C has failing TIPM and dealer is quoting $1500 to replace it. Fuel pump stays on after vehicle is shut off. They ar Walsh trying to tell me the fuel pump also needs replacing. For a total of $2100 plus tax.

I have owned my 2010 T&C now for only 5 weeks. Bought it used from a dealership. 3 days later the engine stalled while driving with my 3 kids. Everything locked up, brakes, steering etc. Had to wait a bit and finally got the thing to start. After starting it then did not want to shift gears, windows doing their own thing, etc. Sent it to the Chrysler dealership who advised needed a new PCM and valve body in the transmission. $2200.00 later out of pocket i got the van back only for the problems to come back again in about 5 days. No dealership seems to be able to tackle this issue. These vehicles are unsafe to drive. I hope i don't have to sue Chrysler for something more serious that may happen to my family. Shame on you. Guess your families aren't riding in one of these or you would be quick to address.

Before replacing the TIPM, our Jeep Wrangler's ABS brakes juddered and locked when going into reverse, there was stalling while traveling uphill, stalling after placing the vehicle in reverse, the short horn sound didn't engage when locking vehicle, vehicle stability lights randomly went on and off, and our vacum pump failed. After replacing TIPM (and the vacum pump) all of these issues were resolved. Glad we had extended warranty.

This should have been a recall because its obvious there bad because one of very few place to get is a dealership and there discontinued

I bought a used 2007 Jeep Compass 2 years ago. They were not included in the recalls. I have now have the TIPM replaced twice in less than one year of owning it. First my headlight stopped working and the second time my wipers would just randomly go on and off as they pleased. Thankfully the part itself has a 2 year warranty so I haven’t had to pay for it, but if I’ve replaced it twice already in two years of owning this vehicle, how often was it done beforehand and how many more times will I have to do while I own it. It takes almost 2 weeks to get it ordered, installed, and programmed.

I have an 06 Ram1500. In 2014 I needed to have starter replaced because it suddenly quit working. No warning signs of a bad starter. A few months later the fuel pump went out while driving down the road. Once again. No warning signs that it was going bad. And yet again another few months went by and the TIPM finally decided to have a huge electrical short and fried the entire TIPM. TIPM was ordered from the dealer by my mechanic and replaced. And here we are in 2017. The process is starting all over again. Truck is down for the count with another bad fuel pump. Gauges have been acting up. Headlight, fog light, and taillight bulbs are burning out at an alarming rate. Something needs to be done about this issue. I have three children that constantly ride in the vehicle with me. I sure as hell don’t want anything happening to them because of this failed part while driving on the interstate.

I have a 2010 chrysler town and country that I have owned for just over a year. At first, the Windows would open, door locks would open and close and engine would sporadically start. About 6 months in dealing the situation became worst. My T&C vegan stalling with no warning. I would be driving and suddenly notice the traction light illuminated and the stwreing wheel and brakes stuff. It happens at any speed and it is terrifying. Intooknit to Chrysler and they were unable to find anything wrong. The tech requested to keep my T&C over night and I abliged, still they found nothing. I have 3 children and I work 60 miles round trip from home. I am literally fearful for my life while driving this car.

My 2011 Town and Country is having the same TIPM issues at 88,952 miles. First it left the fuel pump on, then nearly every it cranks without starting several times before it does finally start.
Last night it shutoff the engine while going down the highway.

Since it seems like every Chrysler vehicle with a V6 since 2005 is having the TIPM issue another recall needs to be issued to take care of everyone else suffering due to their defective design.

You can add my 2010 T&C to the list that seems to get longer everyday with TIPM problem. Luckily, nothing extremely dangerous has happened so far. The horn has a mind of its own, the exterior lights do not function nor the radio/CD player. After researching for days about all the problems I have ordered a new TIPM. There is no point in going to Chrysler unless I want to pay them $1200.00 for the repair/replacement. My vehicle has been sitting for 4 days now while waiting for the new part. Time for Mopar to "man up" and realize what a danger this is!! I hope they lose their suit because I am sure they are not losing any sleep over this serious issue!!

I own a 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan. It is far from "grand". I have 50,000 miles on it and the starter went bad. Why? There is a faulty TIPM in the car, and it has been proven, yet there is no recall because supposedly it is not a danger to people! It is still faulty by the manufacturer. Maybe it has something to do with all of the USA companies ordering parts from foreign countries. Anyway, there is a bypass cable fix for the TIPM problem to save approximately $1000 cost of replacing the TIPM. There is a lot of problems on this car, but there are fixes if only the Dodge dealers will do it!

2012 Chrysler Town and Country has "stalled" (no power brakes or steering) a few times now. This last time in a busy intersection. I brought the vehicle to the dealership and couldn't find anything wrong with it.

At first I noticed that the display screen would randomly freeze, and would not reset until the car was restarted. Then I found out the the unlock button on the drivers side door would not work. Those were odd but not too troublesome. Today, while I was driving down the road with my wife and 2 young children, the 2012 Town and Country randomly started shaking when I would accelerate, then the ignition went and the power steering and brakes went with it. We nearly ended up driving into the river.

We bought the van, used, last month. It has 60,000 miles on it. I've read that a lot of people have had similar circumstances but not a lot have found a successful fix. I'm horrified at the thought of my family driving this vehicle again.

I have a 2009 Chrysler Aspen and it has been a problem every since the warranty expired. All of a sudden a couple of years ago while I was driving with my family from dinner every light on the dash lit up. Scared my wife and I pretty good. Although it did not shut off we decided to keep driving because we were far from home and didn't want to take a chance of being stranded on the NJ Parkway with our kids. We got home and tried it again the next day but everything worked fine. But that was just the beginning of the problems with this vehicle. Randomly, at the most random times the lights would flash and if the car was turned off when we try to start it again it wouldn't turn over at all usually leaving us stranded until IT decided to start again. This has been happening consistently for sometime now. We took it to the shop and the mechanic at Chrysler told us that the sensor for the gas cap was messing everything us and that was not the case because after repair that feature the problem still persist. We have dealt with this inconvenience until today February 17, 2017 when I attempted to start my vehicle and it made a loud "CLICK: was EVERYTHING went dark. Inserting the key into the ignition has no effect. After an hour I went to check if the problem corrected itself as it sometimes does but when I put in the key the lights wear dimly lit and flickered a continuous clicking was heard until I reopened the door. I am a 21 year retired US Coast Guard Veteran living off my pension and going to college while still trying to provide for my family. I cannot afford to pay for catastrophic repairs to my vehicle and not sure I can afford another vehicle at this time. If Chrysler knows about these problems why don't they one up to them and repair these issues before someone gets hurt.

2008 Town & Country. Only 56k miles and TIPM is shot.
This was a retiree lease vehicle to my father who was 40yr Chrysler Financial management. But when the company had problems in 2009, they made him buy the van and after he passed, I inherited it. Those crooks would have killed the WWII Marine if he lived longer. Driving 55 mph on a major highway and the electrical goes off and on repeatedly. By God's grace, I wrestled the steering into the grass medium and sat there shaking.

The van has been serviced regularly ( including the RECALLED keyless mess they put us thru) and was in tremendous shape with low mileage. But now it sits dead for 7 weeks as I was laid off 3 mos ago and have no way to pay the obscene expenses for this DEFECTIVE PART.
These disgusting executives at Chrysler are ruining people's lives by not taking responsibility for their Defect.

I bought a 2011 Durango in August 2016. The electronics had a complete meltdown. my wife pulled into a local repair shop with wipers going on automatically , lights flashing, engine racing, and every warning light flashing on the instrument cluster. Nothing electronic worked on the vehicle. The engine raced so hard I thought the engine would blow. Alas, another faulty TIPM and a $1200 repair bill. During my own research, sounds like Chrysler continued to install faulty TIPM's as recent as 2014, despite a 2013 lawsuit. The original TIPM on this vehicle was replaced in 2014 as part of the lawsuit and recall, and likely replaced with another faulty TIPM. Chrysler/Mopar would not warranty the part or offer any assistance and gave me myriad of reasons why they wouldn't. Hard to believe an auto company would not warranty a part with known reliability issues, subject to a recent lawsuit and recall, and one that is so costly - to the consumer- to replace. This, too, was my first Chrysler purchase and likely my last

I had a TIPM failure/fuel pump relay. No damages. Im still alive. $1250 to replace as you know- from dealer of course....Nearly had an accident as I was traveling 55 mph in traffic. Also shortly before that I had the power locks unlock at 40 mph by themselves.... You know the deal abut Chrysler 2011 Town and Country. DANGEROUS and UNRELIABLE. Would like to put my name in the hat if any of you are pursuing this legally.

SMH....never again Chrysler!!!

I am having a complete electrical malfunction with my truck. I remotely started it one cold morning, approximately 20 degrees. After going outside and approaching the truck I noticed that the headlights were on. When remotely starting a vehicle only the parking/marker lights come on. When I tried to unlock the truck with the key fob, nothing worked. I manually unlocked the drivers door and opened it to find an enormous amount of issues. The interior lights would not come on. The windows were still completely frosted up. I noticed that the defrost wasn’t working, including the heated seats, heated steering wheel, and heated mirrors. I also noticed that there were no lights or power to the entire radio cluster, heat & A/C controls, parking assist buttons, hazard button, 4 wheel drive controls, etc. The doors didn’t have power for any door locks or windows. On the instrument cluster, every warning light imaginable was illuminated. Check engine, ABS, voltage, air bag, park assist, traction control, low fuel, low washer fluid, seat belt, low tire pressure, all gears indicator lights were illuminated. The center message screen was going through every possible fault scenario. I tried to turn off the truck and restart it but the problem persisted. I eventually had to remove the battery because the headlights wouldn’t go off. The truck wasn’t safe to drive and was not functioning properly whatsoever. I was told by the service manager over the phone that the TIPM is the issue. The truck still has not been repaired and is now a paper weight in my driveway.

One day I tried to drive my truck to the store without any history of transmission issues. When I placed the truck into drive the truck immediately shifted in 4th gear. I put it back in park then into drive again. This seemed to fix the issue. A few days later while I was driving down the road the truck felt sluggish, almost like I was pulling a heavy load on a trailer. I noticed that the truck was in 4th gear again. I thought that maybe I had accidentally put the truck into manual, but I knew that I had not. So I tried to shift back into drive, but this didn't fix it. I pulled over, turned the truck off, back on and miraculously no more issues. Until I drove it again the next day. It would sporadically shift into 4th gear, and stay there without any type of reset like before. Other days, I could drive just fine. I eventually had an independent transmission specialist look at the truck. He stated that the low gear/reverse transmission shift solenoid was malfunctioning. I replaced it and didn’t have any other transmission issues. Besides the rear door locks being inoperable like before, the electrical issues started the following week (TIPM).

I was driving my truck to work one morning. I was traveling at a steady speed of 70mph in a straight stretch. All of the sudden my steering wheel started to wobble and I had the low tire pressure warning light on my dash. After no more than 2 seconds the truck pulled extremely hard to the right. I knew that I had a flat tire. After attempting to safely pull off and avoid the tractor trailer from slamming into me I was able to pull over. After inspecting the tire, I noticed that I didn’t have a valve stem in my front passenger tire. I attempted to change the tire on the side of the road in the rain but broke the cheap lug wrench that is supplied with the vehicle. Apparently the dealership over torqued the lug nuts. I had to get a ride to work, being 1.5 hours late and leave my truck on the interstate all day. My father in law works for a tire and lube center. He professionally inspected it. The threads completely stripped out of the tire pressure sensor and valve stem. This is what caused it to violently eject from the wheel itself. By Gods’ good graces I was able to pull over that day and not crash or die due to the high speeds.

The rear power door locks do not work whatsoever in my truck. Trying to unlock/lock the doors in my truck with the key fob only operate the front doors. Trying to unlock/lock the doors with the front driver and passenger side power door lock controls only operate the front doors as well. The only way the back doors will lock/unlock is if it is done manually. When the doors are unlocked, the back doors do not lock when the truck reaches the speed that engages all door locks when in drive. The doors will not unlock when putting the truck into park. I could understand if one or the other is malfunctioning, but not both. This definitely indicates an electrical issue. This is a safety hazard. My children can get trapped in if they try to exit the vehicle in an accident, they could get kidnapped/assaulted if the back door locks were pulled up by them without my knowledge, my items could get stolen in my truck if its left parked and unattended, etc. Anything can happen with a huge number of scenarios.

We have a 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan. I'm not sure if the issues we're experiencing are related to the TIPM, but I'm lead to believe so since they're all electrical.
Three times I've come out to our vehicle (all in public places) to find one of the sliding doors wide open, typically the drivers side door.
Twice I've come out to find the driver's side sliding door window down, once during a rain storm.
Twice I've had it just shut off on me, no warning at all.
Both power outlets at the bottom of the dash work for about 30 seconds, then turn off and then back on...and to add to the problem they are both melting phone chargers.
The latest thing to start, is in regards to the radio. The radio intermittently stops working, however it's not whole radio. There is no sound from the AM/FM. The CD player works fine.
When will Chrysler do something about these things??

SAME ISSUE AS MOST 2011 Town and country the TIPM is bad and it can be very dangerous to me and my family. Yet Chrysler wants ME to pay $1200 to have it repaired for their mistake! Because my van happens to not be on the recall list!

My 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 started having problems stalling, almost causing an accident in a construction zone and running rough off and on aprox.1 month ago, Oct.2016...got harder to crank ,until it wouldn't start at all. Went online and started troubleshooting the symptoms of my truck, and was overwhelmed by the number of complaints and problems caused by the Tipm. And even more amazed finding out that of all the vehicles involved in a lawsuit resulted in only a couple models being recalled, especially when all others had the same Tipm box. Had truck towed to Bossier Dodge in Hillsboro Texas, and had someone drive me there to talk to shop boss. I told him the problems, mentioned the tipm complaints, and even gave him the website to Vertical Verizons ,who sells a Test/ bypass kit since there is so many of these tipm going bad, especially the internal fuel pump relay inside it.. He seemed to pay little attention. Several days later he called, saying that my truck was ready and that it was a faulty fuel pump, and fixed a couple other things I had wrote up. A red flag popped up in my mind about the fuel pump, because I had remembered reading that often good parts ,especially fuel pumps ,had been replaced because the code showed the fuel pump bad when put on diagnostic machine. Went and got my truck, paid the deductible on extended warranty, and asked was there any problems noticed with tipm.He assured me it was a bad fuel pump. As my girlfriend was leaving from driving me to the Dodge dealership in Hillsboro Texas , the mechanic who pulled my truck around said ,"I left it running because I think you have a bad battery and you might have it checked out". I thought it odd that they didn't mention it when they called and told me the truck was ready, since the battery was just over a year old and I had purchased it and had in talked there. Was getting late and I stopped at auto parts store . They tested battery and said it was fine. I got to my girlfriend house and turned off engine removed keys.As I got out I heard a humming noise towards the back of the truck. As I got approximately where gas tank fill door is,I realized that the fuel pump was running and the engine was OFF. KEY OUT!. Had a couple friends over and they couldn't believe it.One suggested that I take off the battery cable to stop the pump from running and killing the battery. Another red flag from reading the tipm internal fuel pump relay would sometimes keep fuel pump running when off,or sometimes not pump at all. Another friend mentioned that if the pump was continuously running that it was possible that gas pressure could build up in return lines and seep down thru injectors into oil,so I checked oil and was 1/4inch past fill line on dipstick and smelled of gas.Called dealership next morning and they said drive it on back and they will check it out, and I told them that wouldn't be a good idea because of gas in oil, then the disputes started. I didn't think I should have to pay a wrecker again ,but they wouldnt, got to the point that I called customer service in Michigan. Told them I was aware of the tipm problems they had, and they agreed to reimburse tow truck bill. The truck has been in the shop 15 days. The first few they said it was cranking and running just fine, I called daily and got the run around , no answer, still working on it until I decided not to call anymore. I gave in yesterday, November 8th 2016. Shop manager finally said ," Well you were right. It is the tipm. But your extended
Warranty doesn't cover it.But the warranty states computer module instead of tipm, but the tipm is the computer module! I was glad to find this site, and know that I'm not the only one going through this nightmare, I'm disabled and elderly, have nearly been in an accident, missed several doctor appointments, had to pay people to give me transportation because Dodge said they didn't have a loaner car or rental, missed the funeral of my first cousin in Louisiana, and the stress of not even having transportation to go get the basic necessary needs of daily life, and still have my truck in shop, and was promised a phone call from dealership this morning to re look at warranty and see if he could get covered. All because of a problem with these tipm boxes that Chrysler /Dodge has been very aware of, and in my opinion, purposely failed to address or being made aware of to the buyer, because of the magnitude of this faulty part and the dangerous situations or accidents it can put people in.. It's really a problem that needs to be corrected by recalling the tipm on the make and models on the original lawsuit before more people get hurt because it controls just about everything in the vehicle.

I have a 2001 and owned it from day one and it has had a issue with the ctm for years now as the high beam on drivers side has failed.. It was determined to be ctm and it was over $500 to fix and it failed again... Its obviously a bogus part and I have read where this has been an issue with the dash lights horn and in my case intermittent alarm issues...This has been an issue with dodge since as early as 1997 and apparently is very common in the 2000-2004 years but as I have learned has been all to common in years ranging from 1997 to 2014... This is unacceptable and if Chrysler was an honorable company they would repair this since even replacement parts from them fail just the same so its garbage.....

My van randomly loses power while I’m driving in traffic and has nearly caused accidents on several occasions, because I lost my power steering and my car instantly stalled in front of moving traffic. In one incident, after losing my power steering while I was going around a curve with more than one lane, my van started veering towards the right, into other cars. When I took it to the auto repair shop, they diagnosed it with a defective TIPM. They also informed me that an auto safety group had many, many reports of defective TIPM’s in Chrysler’s vehicles like mine, but that Chrysler refused to do a recall on my particular model. While researching online, I discovered that there are several lawsuits against them for this, but that the NHTSA refuses to look into the issue any further. I have been advised that this poses a serious life risk and safety risk to my family and I. I am a single mom, on disability and am now stuck making big payments on a vehicle that is unsafe to drive. Even if I had over a $1,000 to fix it, they would replace it with the same defective part. Are we going to have to plaster our stories all over the news to get Chrysler and the NHTSA to do something about it? I live near a coastline in the Pacific Northwest and most people know how sharp curves are near this coastline. It’s no joke that random loss of power could kill everyone in my car, and/or other passengers in vehicles within our vicinity.

The first time I had a problem every light on the dash lit up, the wipers started for no reason, all gauges, temp, fuel, speedometer completely shut down and a bell dings, which it still does occasionally for no apparent reason. I've had 3 new TIPMs installed and the original one reset once. Two of the modules were replaced under warranty. When it started acting up again I switched dealers because the other dealer wouldn't even work with me. My new dealer installed the 3rd TIPM for just $50 labor, they apparently spoke with their Chrysler rep. It is currently acting up again, the occasional bell ding and my radio stops functioning, not a serious problem but a real pain in the rear. I have 2008 Jeep Liberty with less than 65k miles. I am canceling my satellite radio because I can't use any function on the radio, AM/FM, satellite or CDs. I love Jeeps but I will NOT be purchasing another Chrysler product. Looking into the "lemon law" in my state, PA.

I recently had a car incident that almost caused me my life, I own a (2011 Jeep Liberty) when driving the electrical power turn off windshield wipers went off and lights of the vehicle went off then radio comes on and door locks unlock I was freaking out also, I was on a unpaved gravel road at night couldn't see and hit a iron pole on my property that caused damage to my vehicle and deployed the air bags but nothing boosted out the bags did not blow up at all, also my steering wheel locked up and forced me to drive right into the metal iron. I'm alive however if the car didn't have these defects I wouldn't be in pain or suffering from injuries of the manufacturing company that sold me this (2011 Jeep Liberty) I think that the company that invented this jeep needs to recall them all and have them 100% inspected not a safe vehicle!! 08/22/2016 Erika

I recently have been having trouble with my 2011 dodge ram 1500..first it was just occasionally having trouble starting..then it became more often...yesterday while driving it shut down..had all I could do to pull over safely..no power steering no nothing...called a tow truck and brought it to the dealer..took them 2 days to figure out it was the tipm..now I have a 3 day wait for the part to come in and had to get a rental..if chyrsler knew this was a problem why was there never a recall???? Luckily this turned out ok but this could of been serious!!!

2011 town and country. Won't start, shuts dos while driving and failed to engage park rolling backwards damaging other vehicle. Chrysler says it is not part of recalled TIPM's.

I just bought a 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan. The right side power door locks, hatch door locks, and rear wiper didn't work. My Dodge dealer said it was a defective TIPM - cost to repair $1058. I asked if this was rare - they replied "yes". Now I find out that it is NOT rare. After paying the big bill I have found out that a TIPM can be rebuit and guaranteed for $269 + $20 freight. I hope the class action suit is won in regard to Caravan and that I can recover my expense.

I have a 2014 Jeep unlimited wrangler with an aftermarket bumper. one of the fog lights broke and needed to be replaced. I was told the it caused a short in the TIPM and the part alone was $850. They told me that the bumper and associated lights caused the short. I find it hard to believe.

last month 4/16 my wife was parked at my mother house with suv (2011 jeep liberty ) running when a lighting struck close by and the engine stop running the head lights , whipers stayed on and the dash light with all the warning lights just kept on turning on and off. Truck is still in the shop new engine computer truck started up but everything else is not working. Thank god my wife was parked and not on the road.

I was 175km off main road at favourite fishing spot when out nowhere every light on the dash lit up.After stopping and turning the engine off the security system went off but nothing else worked.I had to walk 2 hours down a mountain road in known bear country to find cell service. Then I paid 400+ dollars to tow it to the dealership because supposedly only they can fix it . Now 5-7 day wait for the1400 dollar part. Had Chrysler at any point warned me that there were issues with this part I would have been able to notice the warning signs(horn stopped working alarm went off with no one around , wipers in wrong position in am) and dealt with it before my safety was comprimized.also knowing ahead of time would have given me the option of dumping their garbage product or at least trade it back to them for model with improved system.

They were installed in 1990's vans too! You can't buy your part and have dealership install them they refuse parts have to be ordered through them.

I still have the faulty TIPM. The dealership is ready to replace it for $1400. My side view mirror doesn't work, my odometer spikes up for no reason. The car will abnormally rev, the lights flicker, and rear brake light cable had to be replaced. Chrysler blames it on wear and tear, but these issues started when the car had 6,000 miles. Chrysler also failed to notify me that the sold a new vehicle with latent defects. They damaged the vehicle coming off the assembly line and repainted the rear bumper, but forgot to replace the lower control arm and failed to strip the paint of the bumper before repairing it. The Chrysler website supports my claim, but Chrysler refuses to fix. I will never buy another Chrysler product.

Front windows and sliding doors and rear hatch have started opening on their own without input to activated control switches on our 2010 Chrysler Town and Country Limited (2A4RR6DX7AR). The car has 81,000 kms on it. Park it in the garage at night, with doors locked and remote securely on the kitchen table, and come to it in morning to find front windows down, sliding doors open, or rear hatch door up. We are afraid to park the car on the street or in a lot for shopping, etc. for fear it will unlock and we will return to a car that is open for vandalism or theft. Hasn't happened with the car moving while driving, but certainly causes concerns regarding safety and security of this vehicle. I suspect we have a faulty TIPM. I will contact dealer to see if Fiat/Chrysler are prepared to offer any support to repair this problem.

We bought a new 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan Crew in December 2012. When we took it for a test drive, the transmission felt like it did not want to shift. When we got back to the dealer , we expressed our concerns about this. They told us it was an "adaptive transmission". I have been working on cars for 25 years and never heard of this. At 10,000 miles, they told us that it was required to have the transmission serviced. So we had it serviced. Now it feels worse now than before. AGAIN we expressed our concern to the service department. That is the nature of the transmission we were told! We also were told there was an update to the TIPM, that needed to be done. Now all kinds of strange things are happening. The remote start works only when it wants to, the power doors sometimes operate---when they want. The dash and instrument lights flicker all the time. We haven't had it stall out yet, but I think as it gets more miles on it, it will!

12 JKRU 52,000 miles. It first happened at night while wife was driving on interstate Jeep went crazy mode all lights in cluster illuminated warning lights flashing and with hot oil msg, warning dings going off, heard electric fan running . It seemed that nothing was controllable, auto trans went into and would not shift out of first gear. Scared the hell out of my wife. Got home after shut off I tried to restart but nothing happened. I disconnected battery to reset cpu that did not work. I stopped by auto zone to get codes scanned . They told me every system was reporting failure and needs to go to dealer. After restart, everything was normal. After 100 yards down the street it all happened again. Pulled into store parking lot, turned Jeep off and would not restart till 4th try. Drove it strait to dealer in first gear with all. They said that it was TIPM and not under warranty, gave a rental car for 10 days because part is on back order. After 10 days Chrysler quit paying for rental car and still have no part to fix Jeep it has been 16 days. I guess there are alot of failures for the TIPM causing back order and do not know when they will get one.

Actually this problem started at the end of last Winter. I would try to start the van and get nothing. It sounds like it is starving for fuel. Then a few minutes later, VROOM...... it would start. My local mechanic (who is awesome) changed a sensor. It worked for a few days, then nothing. Again a sensor change and it worked. The weather also got warmer.........

Now this Winter, January 2016........... Same issue. Not starting. It seems to act up when the temperature drops below 40 degrees F. But this time it is worse than last Winter. Had sensor changed twice. No help. My mechanic suggested that there may be a recall on the electrical system and to take it to the dealership. Which brings us to today....... At first they reprogrammed my sensors with the software that only the dealership owns. Only to find that it did not work!

The van has been at the Chrysler/Dodge dealship for 2 weeks. I am a stay at home mom of 3 girls. I do a lot of running around with them and for them. This is not a good time to be without a vehicle. The dealership is telling me that they think (key word here is think) it is the fuel pump and it will have to be replaced. After parts and labor the cost will be around $1000. Then I get a call to say that maybe it is something with the electrical components and will cost close to $1300!!!!!!! That's when I started my own research, to discover this site and the numerous exact complaints that I am having! (I must say though, that the service person with whom we are dealing, has been very patient and kind with all of this.)

Why has this part not been recalled on these vehicles? I have done more research to find out that other Dodge/Chrysler vehicles use the same TIPM equipment and have been recalled.

Someone please help!!! This is not fair to any of the owners of this vehicle. Not to mention unsafe!!! Does Dodge/Chrysler not care about the safety of their customers and others? Makes me second guess ever purchasing a Dodge/Chrysler product ever again.

I have a town and country mini van 2014 I have had issues from the first week we purchased it. Engine is very very rough, intermittently not starting, brakes feel like they are not engaging correctly and feel like they are slipping and its not the abs its on dry roads in the summer at regular stops or slowing down in normal conditions. doors fail to unlock intermittently, transmission slams into gear on normal back up out of garage, parking spaces, basically anywhere, it sometimes is so back that it is loud and shakes the whole car like transmission has just fallen out of the car. (very scary when you have kids) Transmission has been like this since the first month we bought the car new in august of 2014. I have been to 5 dealerships in and out of town they say all is just normal for this type of car. It is not it is terrible. scary and worrisome. I have all the paperwork, dealt with Chrysler escalation 7 times and they just keep switching me from person to person with no help at all. It seems as if all dealships have flagged me or have been told to hide or lie about issues until we give up or until our warranty is up. I am now having issues with my struts over the last 3 months. they sound loose when going over just normal road bumps but of course that is normal they say. I need help.

in re; Briza C. Robinson

I've been reading a lot of horror stories about dealerships installing replacement parts that fail, but there seem to be a few places online that offer solutions that actually work.

There is one that works for the fuel pump relay that is cheaper than $200 jeepchryslertipm.com has it. Also works with Dodge models as well. I've bought two from them so far, seem to do the trick and only takes a few minutes to install. Still waiting for a response from the dealership about getting the whole thing replaced, but I can at least drive my car in the meantime.

You know I'm wondering instead of having the dealer order the parts if it would be possible (and cheaper) to order the parts myself and just have them install it? I was doing some research online and found the part from different locations that would sell them and ship them to my home ranging in prices from like $200 to $500.

Has anyone done this before?

My 2008 Sebring has a faulty computer and I have problems with electrical. Chrysler tried fixing the issue several times unsuccessfully but never tried replacing the computer. I finally gave up and have been driving this vehicle knowing that it will soon die.

Writing in from Fort Lauderdale, Florida and wanting to know who can I talk to about the same issues as described "A failed TIPM causes malfunctioning of airbags, headlights, brakes, horns, wipers, windows, door locks and other components that rely on electrical functions, Weitz & Luxenberg explained. Worse, a failed TIPM can cause a vehicle's engine to shut down unexpectedly while driving at high speeds."?

I'm currently waiting to pick up my car from the dealer since Monday 11/23/15 and returning their rental because the repairs are just way too much for my husband and I to handle at the moment (I was quoted something over $1,000) to have the TIPM fixed and was told that we have to pay this ALL UPFRONT before we can get this resolved. I also have other issues that came about since dealing with the dealer so I really need to talk to someone about getting the minivan fixed or possibly traded in or placed into a different vehicle completely.

I appreciate it.

My 2009 Avenger had a right front headlight and blinker and a rear left blinker go out all at once. Replaced bulbs and it still did not work. Took it to dealership and was told the tipm was shot and needed replaced. If they know these are faulty, why hasn't a recall been issued?
