Comcast Corp.

A class action lawsuit has been filed against the high speed Internet provider company alleging false advertising related to the speed of its Internet service. The lawsuit was filed in the Superior Court for the District of Columbia and alleges Comcast does not have the "fastest Internet connection" as it advertises because it intentionally blocks or impedes customer's access to peer-to-peer file sharing.

The class action claims Comcast manages the flow of Internet traffic as peer-to-peer files often take up a lot of bandwidth that can slow down networks during peak times. The complaint alleges Comcast sends forged "reset packets" telling the transmitting computers attempting to share files to stop sending data. The Federal Communications Commission is currently investigating Comcast's traffic management actions and Comcast's response shows that the company realizes that its network isn't always capable of living up to customers' expectations.

In June of 2007 I got a call from Comcast marketing stating that they could give me combined service, TV-cable, telephone, and computer service for a low monthly price of $99.00. First they could not install the service on the day they promised, instead I was without phone service for over 2 weeks, and when they did come to install the service they told me that my computer was in the wrong room, and they could not install the service. After weeks of haggling with them they finally installed the service for which they billed me over $200.00 the first bill. The only part of the service which worked was the cable TV, the computer and phone service were always going dead. Now they have sent the bill to collections that I should not have been billed in the first place.
