US Federal Government

A lawsuit has been filed against the federal government seeking to stop immigration officials from deporting undocumented parents of US born children. The lawsuit was filed in US District Court in Miami and seeks class action status on behalf of more than 60 families in South Florida. The case names President Bush, Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzalez, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff and federal immigration officials as defendants. More than three million children are born in the United States that have parents who are undocumented immigrants. The lawsuit claims US immigration laws that force apart families violate the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and claims such separations violate the children's constitutional rights.
