Federal Investigation Launched into Fiat Chrysler Roll Away Incidents

- by

Santa Clara, CA: The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced an investigation into reports that certain Fiat Chrysler vehicles “rolling away” while the vehicle transmissions are in park. The investigation will affect about 1 million vehicles.

The NHTSA stated it has received 43 complaints of either a Ram 1500 or Dodge Durango rolling away from a parked position. These roll away incidents allegedly happened after the driver placed the vehicle’s transmission in park and exited the vehicle. This has allegedly resulted in 25 crashes and nine injuries to date. Some reports say the engine was running at the time, and others report it was shut off.

The vehicles subject to the evaluation include the Dodge Durango from model years 2014 to 2016 and Ram 1500 pickups from model years 2013 to 2016. These vehicles have an electronic rotary control for driver gear selections that is different to the shifter that FCA recalled earlier this year for rollaway issues.

In April, Fiat Chrysler recalled more than 1.1 million cars and SUVs worldwide because the vehicles may roll away after drivers exit.

Has anyone with a RAM 2500 had this problem?
I have a 2016 Dodge Ram 2500, while parked my truck started rolling forward by its self. It ran into a building. Thank goodness no one was standing in the front of the truck, they would have been seriously injured or worse! I immediately went to my local dealership where I purchased and they told me there was nothing wrong. I then contacted FCA and they sent a "special" investigator out to run tests on my truck. The investigator did not tell me any information or give me a copy of the findings. About a week later I received a letter stating they did not find anything in the tests indicating a problem with the truck. The letter told me to check my user manuel and make a insurance claim! After I received the letter I called and asked for a copy of the report. The report has never been made available to me.
