Potential Carcinogen, RoundUp Glyphosate, Found In Cheerios and Many Other Foods

- by

Santa Clara, CA: The weed killer glyphosate is at the center of potential concern regarding the safety of a variety of American foods including cookies, crackers and popular cold cereals breakfast cereals such as Cheerios.

Independent testing done by Food Democracy and its Detox Project revealed glyphosate residue was present in amounts higher than those considered safe, or what is known as the “maximum residue limit (MRL)”, established by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

The testing was done by San Francisco-based Anresco lab, which uses liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), a method considered to be the most reliable for analyzing glyphosate residues by regulators and the scientific community.

The tests evaluated 29 foods commonly found in grocery stores across the U.S. The findings showed glyphosate residues in General Mills’ Cheerios at 1,125.3 parts per billion (ppb), in Kashi soft-baked oatmeal dark chocolate cookies at 275.57 ppb, and in Ritz Crackers at 270.24 ppb. Different levels were found in Kellogg’s Special K cereal, Triscuit Crackers and several other products, the Huffington Post reported.

U.S. regulators have set an acceptable daily intake (ADI) for glyphosate at 1.75 milligrams per kilogram of bodyweight per day (mg/kg/bw/day) much higher than what other countries consider safe. For example, the European Union has set its limit at 0.3. Reportedly, the EPA is supposed to set an ADI from all food and water sources that is at least 100 times lower than levels that have been demonstrated to cause no effect in animal testing.

The timing of the report coincides with research on the adverse health effects of glyphosate, research which shows that the weed killer Roundup, which contains glyphosate, can cause liver and kidney damage in rats at only 0.05 ppb. Studies have also shown that levels as low as 10 ppb can have toxic effects on the livers of fish.

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), a branch of the World Health Organization, recently classified glyphosate as a probable human carcinogen.

Glyphosate is the world’s most widely weed killer and the key ingredient in Monsanto’s RoundUp. Its use in food production is widespread. For example, glyphosate is sprayed directly on several genetically modified crops including corn, soybeans, sugar beets, and canola, crops that have been deliberately engineered to tolerate glyphosate. Further, the chemical is also sprayed directly onto many types of conventional crops ahead of harvest, including wheat, oats and barley. According to the EPA, glyphosate is used in some way in the production of not less than 70 food crops, including a variety of nuts, vegetables and fruits. The Huffington Post reports that glyphosate is even used in spinach production.

Thats so sad, I have always loves these cereals, all the types. I've been eating these cereals for as long as most people die when they smoke that long. How do I get in on this testimony? I'll write a statement about all my health related symptoms.

No amount of glysophate is safe even in small amounts.-Period It's called chemical violence, attempted negligent homicides en-masse, and it's time to arrest the mass-murderers who developed this defective product!!!!

I and my family have used these products forever. I believe Monsanto knew all along just like johnson and johnson. Just like teflon. They don't care about us they only care about money and they have made more than enough to pay damages on any class action law suits they lose so they don't care. We need to hold them criminally responsible. Every one of them needs to go to prison and pay their dues. We need to break up the corproations and start making everyone pay in prison time like it used to be.
Is there anything we can do to stop this.?

This is an outrage! Why does Europe have better food protections than we do in the USA? one word: LOBBYISTS I have all these foods in my pantry! So now our food is poisoning us slowly too! Pls add our family to any class action lawsuit against these criminals!

When will these items be cleared from this carcinogenic? How can they still be purchased in grocery stores if we've known this for years. My young kids have been eating these items for years. I just threw away at least $100 worth of product and now live with anticipation that this will catch up with my kids well being & health in the future.
Why are these products still on the shelves?

I have used Cheerios as treats for my dogs for the past 18 months. If we can't trust General Mills, who can we trust. I myself have eaten them in the past frequently.

I would like to be added to this lawsuit.

I would like to know how long this information has been available and why these items are still on the shelf. Someone needs to post warning signs or stickers on every item that has been mentioned. My husband has been using Round-Up for years and we eat most of the items that you mentioned. How many other items are out there other than those listed? What does it take and how many people have to die before Monsanto is put out of business. Please add my name to your list and keep me informed of any furthers news.
Thank You!

My husband has been eating Cheerios since he retired 5 yrs ago every morning with a banana.
He has done this because he thinks its healthy and good for the heart.

Well he has for those years and getting worse feels like there is some sort of lump in his throat constantly and getting worse and he forces to clear it and a wod of crap is spit out.

Wait til I tell him about this!

And most definitely does he want to be included in any form of class action suit against this company.

Good Lord! I've been eating cherrios for years, an also some other gmills stuff. Is that what caused my peripherial nueropathy and allergies? And what kind of nuts are they talking about? I eat almonds and walnuts. The nuerapathy is bad, and Kaiser says there is nothing they can do about, and to stay off my feet. I can't walk very far, and if I have to walk on cement, I get terrible pains in feet, legs. My doctor said I needed to get a handicapped placerd, and I did. It's a help, but I still have to walk!

This is quite disturbing. Very disturbing. My family eats those products. My entire family from parents to grandkids. How do they get away with this Crap.

if a law suit ensues, i want to be included, i and my family have used all of these products, not knowing what you have disclosed

I would like to be included in this lawsuit. I have a pretty bad reaction to gluten that is not celiac and neurological/ neuropathy type health problems still being tested for diagnosis. I suspect it's poisoning from products such as this. With the right doctors.. we could prove the damage it's causing.

What can I do about this? The Glyphosate used in so many things that we eat and consume?
Is there a Class Action Lawsuit yet? There should be...and I, for one, want to be a part of it.
When I have owned homes, yes.. I used "Round-Up" continuously...believing it to be safe.
In my Pantry right this moment, I have Special K, Triscuits, Ritz Crackers, Kashi Products, many General Mills items and fresh veges, including spinach.
That this human carcinogen is used on and in these and other consumables is OUTRAGEOUS!
I already suffer from autoimmune disorders and I know that many others do, too. Even if one is healthy, this could be a Death Sentence!
Please keep me informed as to the status of these findings.
Thank you,
Karen Moore

I want to be included in lawsuit/settlement. I wrongly assumed Kashi would be an alternative "healthier" choice. Anything to get Monsanto in the news. I cannot afford all non GMO products, but want to be a thorn in this out of control conglomerate.
