Ontario Government and Elections Canada

A class action lawsuit against the Ontario Government and Elections Canada has been filed on behalf of federal inmates, claiming they have been denied the right to vote in the 2004 federal election. A 2002 Supreme Court of Canada ruling gave federal inmates the right to vote. Inmates at Central East Correctional Centre in Lindsay, Ontario, allege they were unable to register for voting due to guards' actions and a failure of Elections Canada to assist them.
