Pilgrim's Pride Corporation, doing business as Wampler Foods Inc., has issued a recall on about 27.4 million pounds of meat that is possibly contaminated with listeria.

Packages of deli meat being recalled bear the plant number P-1351 inside the USDA mark of inspection and a production date. On Oct. 9 295,000 pounds of turkey and chicken products were recalled after a product sample taken by federal food inspectors at the facility tested positive for listeria monocytogenes.

Symptoms of Listeria include high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea. It can kill young children, the elderly and people with weak immune systems, and can cause miscarriages and stillbirths.
