Nissan Settles Transmission Class Action Lawsuits

This is a settlement for the Nissan Faces Defective Automotive Class Action of Pathfinder Transmission Problems lawsuit.

- by

Santa Clara, CA: A preliminary settlement has been reached in three defective automotive class action lawsuits pending against Nissan. The lawsuit, brought in 2014, alleged that the transmissions in certain model-year certain Pathfinder and Infiniti QX60 vehicles were defective.

Under the terms of the agreement, Nissan North America Inc. has agreed to give all owners and lessees of nearly 200,000 Nissan Pathfinders and Infiniti JX35s/QX60s vehicles from model years 2013 and 2014 a free, two-year 24,000-mile extended warranty for their transmissions. Also, owners will be instructed on how to update their vehicles’ software to include detection of the transmission vibration problem referred to as “judder.”

According to the settlement, owners of affected vehicles that underwent two or more repairs to their transmissions may be eligible for discounts on future purchases of a Nissan or Infiniti vehicle.

The case is Kenai Batista v. Nissan North America Inc., case number 1:14-cv-24728, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.

I have a 2014 Nissan Sentra. It had less than 75k miles on it. Transmission went completely out on me. I had to get it repaired at the dealership and paid a little under 5k for it. Ridiculous! I am also a single mother or 2 and get no child support. This was not an expense I expected especially on a fairy new car!

I have a 2013 Sentra and the transmission was replaced at 100k and the car is at 133k and the transmission need to be replaced again. I'm outside the lawsuit claim. Nissan North America says there is nothing they can do and it's my problem I asked the Nissan rep how long is a transmission expected to last and he said he did not know. I had a Xterra that lasted over 300k and an Altima that lasted almost 200k no transmission issues. This is unacceptable. Nissan wouldn't even offer something to buy a new Nissan (not that I would) but they offered nothing to keep a customer so I'm done with Nissan. Almost every vehicle they offer has a Trash CVT.

Nissan should be ashamed of themselves. Trying to profit a dollar, now this is on there hands. Not admitting any liability is out the question. We as citizens can’t expect you to, hell, that’s why you sold these vehicles, though you knew there were defects. At this point I believe it’s important that those who drive or have ownership of these defected vehicles, be able to repurchase another by redeem of a voucher for $6k, or Either we could buy another vehicle or purchase another shrewd warranty. It’s not trust worthy through this company. Nissan has really made a total case of this situation.

For example I purchased a 2014 Nissan Versa with only 25k miles, then earlier this year Jan 2019, I had to get the transmission replaced. Thank goodness I was still under the warranty, however, it was such a battle with the inspector. How could this company walk and stand with integrity, when they had already a thought that this could be the cause. Everyday working citizens don’t have time to argue with corporations that have certain agreements and terms, that they seem to not even want to abide by. I’d rather get a whole brand vehicle. I DONT TRUST NISSAN. If your pulling this stunt, what else could be under the sun for the purchase of your vehicles.

I bought a brand new 2014 Nissan Sentra in December 2914 (2 months of the assembly line). While over 100 miles away from home, my transmission goes out with no warning lights. It never accelerated right. In May, 54,000 miles had transmission replaced. Then 90 days later in August 2019, it happened again as I was trying to make a left turn. I felt transmission slipping and heard a cracking sound under driver front wheel. Another tow and another transmission. Nissan refuses to pay for anything unless I was 150 miles away from home. The lawsuit doesn't help me as I have an extended warranty, unless it will cover up to 100,000 miles.

I had a Nissan sr 2014 the transmission kept dropping I couldn't go over 15 miles per hour then it just died. Went to talk to a Nissan representative and he said there were no recalls and that it would cost me$4700.00 to get fixed and I couldn't afford that so I did volunteer repo still owe money on it!!!

I am owner of Nisan Versa 2014 for more than four years now. Without considering those little expenses and problems so far, the transmission failed all in all finally. No where to go after calling couple of places for repairing and solution seeking. I was charged $ 2800.00 just for used transmission replacement and one year new warranty just for now. I have never enjoyed driving this car. I think we deserve fair deal and treatment for being partner in this business. I hope the company will and the law will do something fair sooner or later! With respect to whoever reads this!

I have a 2013 Nissan Sentra that I bought back in 2013 brand new off the lot at a Nissan Dealer. I've been having problems with the car jerking while accelerating for a few years. Had brought it to Nissan when I still had warranty and they couldn't find the problem. Now, I no longer have warranty and I find out it's because of a problem with the transmission. This is ridiculous. The car is only 6 years old and the transmission is failing!? They shouldn't even be selling cars with faulty transmissions such as these! All that's left for me to do is replace the transmission which will be extremely costly. :( There should be a recall on this transmission.

Nissan sentra 2014 well we fell for the transmission replacement at 78000 then at near 104000 the car would not get out of safe mode. Took it to the dealership amd they said had a bad valve body in the transmission replace the valve body cost 2400 and that did not fix the problem. Told me they had to replace the transmission again. I refused to pay for a second transmission and tried to refuse to pay for the repair that didn't fix the problem but they took legal actions to get ther 2400 for repair that didn't fix the problem. We towed the car home and that is where it sets. We still owe on the vehicle stuck with a car that we can not drive or afford to repair due to these faulty transmission. They want me to pay again for the 3rd transmission I refuse.paid fit the first replacment paid for a valve body in the transmition that was not the problem. A d will not cover the 3rd transmittin under warranty want me to pay out of my pocket for issues they know they have with these transmissions. Help

I have a 2014 Nissan Sentra SV, CVT transmission is gone. The car is 5 years old. I just can not believe it. I call the dealer just to be told you should have changed the transmission fluid at just over 100000. I travel 3 hours a day that was one of the reasons i got the car. I loved that car. No repairs needed regular maintenance. It was great. Then this and the price to replace it. It is not worth the price because those CVT's are not trustworthy. I have read many posts and it can happen at any time. The Nissan company needs to be accountable. They need to either get it right or stop using that type of transmission. I know I will not buy another Nissan again. Only due to that transmission type. Like I said I love my car but I can not afford to change out a transmission every 5 years or less at 4 to 6 thousand dollars.

I bought my nissan in February of 2016, it is a Nissan 2013. I drove it for first 60, thousand miles, then problems. Hesitation, jerking, transmission notices, had to cut car off at least 2 to 3 times to get running right, I went to dealerships and documented problem, they told me they could not find nothing wrong. I believed them but documented, then had more problems with it now car had problems with shutting off, I then brought back, said same thing had documented this again, I finally went to nissan said that transmission should be replaced to cut transmission, but because I was now over my warranty and miles they considered my car not worth replacing, to go and dealership and have them trade it in, so I did, they laughed st me and basically said they would not replace junkers, due to income I can not afford to get a newer car, so now I'm still driving praying I can make to job. I take side streets and backroads. I am very upset that no one would not take responsibility. Just took advantage of me and I'm still have over 5.000 to pay on this car. I don't know what to do, I'm hoping this lawsuit will help me out also took this car to outside transmission shop, they opened the hood and slammed down and said no one will work on this cvt transmission take back to dealership. Of well then!! I feel like I m just stuck. Need help on this. Thanks for reading hope someone else can benefit from this story.

My 2013 Nissan Sentra started making a buzzing/humming noise when I accelerate. Was recommended I get it checked out by a transmission specialist who said that my transmission was having problems. So I took it to local Nissan and service tech confirmed it was the transmission and it was FALLING APART on the inside and was DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. Filed a complaint with Nissan consumer affairs and they said nothing could be done because my car had 120K miles and was a year past warranty. Brian, regional service specialist At Nissan consumer affairs said my only options were to fix my car or sell it. WHO IS GOING TO BUY A CAR WITH A BAD TRANSMISSION?? Also, Brian never went to see my car himself, which both local Nissan service tech and consumer affairs call center rep said he would be doing. He just spoke with the manager at local dealer where my car currently is. I have had to call off of work due to not being able to drive my car because it's dangerous and I want Nissan to be held accountable for the horrible transmissions being used in these cars.

So I’m not the only one have problem with my car
I have Murano 2012. 116.000 miles and the transmission went down and they want to charge me around $7000 and when I called another dealer said around $5000 I asked what’s wrong they told me the company didn’t make new transmissions now they have to use parts. And I called Nissan Support and they want me pay 40%. It’s sucks

I purchased a 2013 Nissan Sentra in 2016.
September of 2018 my transmission had to be replaced! The car only had a little over 50,000 miles! This SHOULD NOT be happening on these cars with such little miles. This car has been one problem after another. Now my brake master cylinder needed to be replaced this past week because my brakes weren't working correctly, very scary! These cylinders should be going out on a car this is 6 years old with 65,000 miles. How are there not law suits for either of these problems?? I've seen many complaints regarding both of these parts failing. These cars are NOT SAFE!

with 82,238 miles. I contacted Nissan about this problem I was told about the recall on the transmission
module. That didn't help because my transmission had already slipped. I was quoted $4500 for a replacement. The day I towed my Altima to the dealership there was 6 Altima's brought in for the same problem. are there any Class Action Suits for Altima's?

2015 Nissan Altima, well cared for, 40,000 miles. Purchased Christmas 2015. I drive city miles. Lots of stopping/going. I was at 50 mph and needed to accelerate, nothing. Would not accelerate and I was losing speed in the middle of heavy traffic. I was lucky and got to the curb. I shut the car off, and tried again a few minutes later and the accelerator worked. Happened two more times and now Im afraid to drive it. Nissan has recognized that owners are having issues, and they say they want to satisfy the warranty, but they won't drive it in traffic for any reasonable amount of time to get it to replicate the problem. Now we are stuck and the customer service at Nissan North America are pushing back. We need a law firm to take Nissan on.

I have a 2013 Nissan Sentra with 113,000 miles. My car is currently at the dealer and I have been told the transmission has to be replaced($4500). I called Nissan and found out the warranty expired 6 months ago. I have a case opened with Nissan to see how they will handle this issue. I have always been concerned with the slow response time between pushing the gas pedal and the car's response.

My 2015 Nissan Altima has CVT problems and was supposedly fixed by the dealership. Two months later at 120,000 miles my car is sitting in the driveway in need of a new transmission. Will cost approximately $4000 and Nissan dealership refusing to do anything to assist. I will never buy another Nissan in this lifetime!

My 2013 Nissan Sentra needed a new transmission about 6 months ago. It had roughly 60k miles on it. Got it fixed. Now, 6 months later, I need a new transmission once again. I am stuck with rental car fees and the frustration of Nissan not covering my bills or hurrying up with the process of giving me a new transmission.

I purchased a 2013 Nissan sentra brand new from an authorized Nissan dealership in April 2013 . It had 13 miles I have done all my service through Nissan. I'm at 83000 miles now and in May 2018, the vehicle began jerking when I was on the freeway going 65 miles. I pulled off to the nearest exit and there was a stoplight when the light turned green my vehicle would not go. The engine was still on but it would not accelerate I turned off the vehicle and restarted it a few times still nothing. I'm in California, this is during rush hour it's a very popular exit so I created a lot of traffic behind me. I could have been hit as well since people are coming off the exit fast and the light was green and I'm at a complete stop. Finally I try to restart it again and it was able to go but it's sputtered and I just parked on the street and tried to get help. I drove it on the street to my house which is about 7 miles and took me forever to get home because it would stop at every light and just refused to run again for a while until I restarted it 5 or 6 times. I was able to get it to the dealership I paid a $120 to have them do the diagnostic and they said none of the transmission lights are codes came up they said it was a catalytic converter. I was glad it was not the transmission since I know that it could get very pricey and my warranty was expired. I saved up $1200 to fix the catalytic converter and when I brought it back in, the service guy started the vehicle and said "yeah it's not just the catalytic converter now it's the transmission as well". Now it wasn't $1200 it was going to be almost $6000. . I was in disbelief I just started crying. I couldn't believe it. This was a 5 year old vehicle that I had serviced through Nissan and it shouldn't have these types of problems. I financed it and I still owed $6500 on it, I was not gonna spend another 6000 to fix it, it should not happen it's too new of a vehicle I kept thinking. The service guy said he didn't think it was worth me repairing that I should try to trade it in for another vehicle. This was affecting my livelihood it was costing a fortune to get to and from work I couldn't drive the vehicle and I had to pay tow trucks to get it there and just kept creating debt for me that I was no longer able to afford. I tried everything I could, I tried to talk to the dealer to see if they could help me with the repairs since it was a 5 year old vehicle and they refused to help me in any way. I took it to corporate, which was a total joke. They wasted 2 weeks of my time only to say that they could not help me at this time. I kept thinking this is not happening what other time would I need you to help me but now. They were completely unprofessional they would not return my calls my messages my emails I must have left 57 voicemails throughout those 2 weeks. I just wanted to know whether they would help me or not so that I could figure something out because I was without a vehicle for 2 weeks and I have like all of us responsibilities to work my mother had just had surgery I need to get her to and from physical therapies and it's very difficult to do so without a vehicle. But Nissan did absolutely nothing. My father cosigned for that vehicle 5 years prior but having him cosign for a new vehicle was not an option. I tried to trade in the vehicle but my credit being too low nobody would finance me. I finally found another Nissan dealership that accepted my trade in and gave me a new car in July. The financing and interest charges were very high my payment would be almost double what I was paying for the 1st vehicle, but I had to do something and I had to get around. I felt trapped, my options were limited. My life responsibilities and duties continued whether I had a car not. I drove around in a new vehicle, a 2018 Nissan Sentra. I should have learned my lesson based on the past history but it was the only option I had. I noticed the new vehicle was acting funny I remember my 2013 being fuel efficient but this new vehicle I had to spend about $200 in gas within the 1st week I had it. I was getting 11.3 miles per gallon when I should be getting 25. I attempted to take it into the dealership and I told them what the problem was and they said that it was normal that I had to break it in and I wondered for how long because I could not afford it. I would be spending over a $1000 a month on a payment gas and insurance it was ridiculous. I had the vehicle for 2 months I purchased it in July 14th and on September 4th they called me in to sign a second contract because the 1st finance company fell through. I kept thinking, after 2 months. Why would they even let me drive out if I hadn't been approved? I went in to sign and the finance manager who had told me about this new contract that had better terms, asked me for the keys and said they were sorry but couldn't find me a finance company and they would need the car back. I didn't sign any documents agreeing to any of this they just took my vehicle and I could not believe I was yet experiencing another headache with Nissan. They returned my 2013 Nissan to me and left me stranded because my vehicle was not running. I asked for questions and he just kind of blew me off he put me in a very difficult situation because I had a very important class to be at that I had to miss and could potentially be a legal matter, and trick me into showing up thinking I'm signing a contract instead taking my car, that is called entrapment. Not only that but during the 2 months they have my trade in, they did not pay for it so now I'm 3 months behind on payments for the trade in that I have a transfer of liability to Nissan dated July 14th. they want $1300 to bring the account current on a vehicle that is not running that I need 6 grand to fix and it's affecting my dad's credit since he cosigned. I went to the dealership since they still had my down payment of a $1000 I asked them to be held accountable for the time they have my vehicle and they refused they do not want to help me in any way I have contacted corporate and nothing. This should not be legal. So once again I'm having this nightmare with the 1st vehicle with the bad CVT transmission that I have now lost so much money because of not to mention all the tow trucks, hundreds and hundreds of dollars maybe in the thousands because Nissan refused to help fix a CVT transmission they knew was faulty. I have a very bad taste in my mouth about Nissan and will never again purchase another Nissan vehicle. I have spread the word to anyone I know and I am very saddened and disappointed at the lack of follow up and customer support Nissan offers. I hope this gets settled because I know there are others like me.

If nissan is able to get out of this lawsuit do you know what that means? Everyone will no longer want there car and first impulse will be to trade it in. However no dealer will want to touch them. Thousands and thousands of people fucked by this corrupt system again.

2013 nissan sentra 38k on it, revving very high sometimes redlining just to maintain speed, shuddering and shaking lose of power. Took it to nissan and they came back 2 hours later and said "aftermarket parts make noise" I didnt fucking say anything about a noise!!! I said my car was shifting weird, revving high and unable to maintain speed or accelerate. They said they couldnt replicate the problem. Not even 2 MINUTES down the road and it was doing it again. I had my 3 KIDS in the car and felt I needed to drop them off first to deal with these crooks. On the way to the dealer again the same day, it was revving up and down, I was unable to maintain speed and when I tried to speed up it would shift weird make clunking sounds and sometime red line at 6500+ rpms. I believe driving it again because they were too ignorant to find the problem (which they knew about and I explained the symptoms very accurately to the cvt problems known by Nissan) it potentially ruined my car even more. They said it was the transmission control system and replaced it. Got my car back a day or 2 later and after them driving it for 68 miles. I literally got 1.5 miles down the road and it was doing it again. I brought it back and it sat all weekend. Monday I get a call saying it the transmission and they got internal transmission failure codes. Took 2 weeks to replace. Went and got my car again and there were scratches all over the car due to the dealerships carelessness. Had them take pictures and have called then twice and they have been ignoring me. I have had my car back for 4 days and I have already notice multiple times that it has acted up while driving. I do not feel confident in this vehicle anymore and feel ot is unsafe. I think its complete bullshit that nissan not only knew about it, has done nothing, and has never informed buyers, they are trying to deny any responsibility and get out of it. I hope Nissan goes out of business as a whole. This goes to show what they think and how they feel about their customers. I have had 3 cars in my life, all nissan sentras. This is by far my nicest one but most expensive and shitty workmanship. I have never felt more betrayed. Probably my last nissan and I was in love..

I’m dealing with the same issue with my 2012 Nissan Altima transmission is going out can’t drive on the freeway do not feel safe in it at all cuz I never know when it’s going to stop having power to continue at the recommended speed limit won’t dare drive in the free way cuz it’s just drops speed out of no where and won’t pick up. Contacted Nissan consumer affairs they sounded great like they would help me asked me what I wanted out of it like hello pay for it to be fixed told to take it to a Nissan dealer for a diagnostic $130 that I would be reimbursed gonna be $3800 to fix and then Nissan regional consumer affairs tells me they feel they don’t need to help me with any repairs wow so I am in the process of getting all the info to start a case to sue them! Just scarde to procesd cuz seems you can’t trust anyone now a days and I don’t want to be screwed over by the attorneys who deal with this kind of stuff. It really sucks

I bought a new 2013 Altima from Pat Peck Nissan In Gulfport, Ms. March 2018 the car started lagging, dying while driving and when stopped. I took it back to the dealership to be checked. They said they connected it to the computer and found nothing wrong. Told me I would have to just drive it till something broke. In May 2018 the car would barely go, then all of a sudden would speed up. I drove it straight to Pat Peck to be checked and was told that the transmission had failed. They first quoted me 4000.00 to replace, but because I was obviously upset (in the service waiting room with other customers present) the manager said he could get it done for 3000,00. When I ask a service tech if this was a common problem with the Altima she replied yes. I felt I had no choice but to get it repaired. They offered a 12 month, 1200 mile warranty. I had no idea about the faulty transmission until this happened and I started talking to others that also had this problem. This is my 5th Nissan purchase and my LAST! And to make matters worse, this car that I paid 26,000.00 for is not worth much since most people are aware of the problems. If there is a current class action law suit against Nissan for this I would appreciate knowing about it.

I have a 2014 Nissan Altima with 74,000 miles. It was hesitates when accelerating. Then it started to stall when stop at intersections. This car was going to be giving to my son who is going to start college. Thank God he was not driving when all the trouble started. How can Nissan sale a defective automotive. The big problem is- Even after fixing the transmission, it can happen again and again. Nissan needs to take responsibility for there product and safety of the consumer.

I have a 2008 Nissan Altima that has 163,000 on it. Transmission started making whining noises and then a few days later started sputtering, not accelerating. Took it to my mechanic. Diagnostic check showed a code P0826, indicating a problem with the transmission. I talked to Nissan and they told me that I needed to take my car to the dealership before they could determine if they would offer me any goodwill. My transmission has to be replaced, cost $4234. They said it was out of warranty and therefore they could offer no assistance. I too am on a fixed income. This repair is going to hurt me financially. There should be a class action lawsuit filed against this company for the frustrations, financial setbacks and danger it has placed on the owners of these faulty cars.

My 2014 Nissan Altima started hesitating at 59,000 mi. I thought it was my spark plugs , then all sudden it would stop . Now 88,000mi. the cvt transmission went out, while I was on a busy highway , I mean the rpm went sky high ,it scared me to death , a vehicle can close to hitting me in the rear. This type of transmission is dangerous. I 'm going to have it tow to the Nissan Dealership tomorrow . The hesitation was not the plugs, it was the transmission, what's so sad about this problem, the Nissan dealership is aware of this problem.

I have been a nissian owner for the last 17 years. I had a 1991 nissan stanza great car, i gave it to my parents when i decided to upgrade to a newer model, its still my dads daily driver with expected maintenance for a 27 year old car. My ex-husband has a 2003 nissan sentra, hasn't had any issues out of that car. I own a 2012 nissan versa again no issues (yet and god help them if i do), so i decided to buy my nephew a 2005 nissan altima why not nissan has never let me down before, until now. i bought the car used as you would for a 17 year old kid and everything seemed fine checked around the valve cover for leaks checked the oil for antifreeze all seemed good it was a nice clean car. The lady i bought the car from may or may not have known about the issue this i dont know and i am willing to pay for something that may break due to age or wear and tare, but then after driving the car for a few weeks i notice that the car is jerking into 2nd gear and slugishly going into 3rd so i do some research only to find out this is a known issue with this car and nissan refuses to cover this as part of its warranty or recall and the real kicker is that it is going to cost me $1,800 which is only slightly less than i paid for the car to fix the transmission and that only comes with a 12,000 mile or 1 year warranty.... 1 year .... is that a joke .... you cant stand behind an oem part put on at the dealership for more than 12,000 miles ... i will NEVER buy another nissan again after all the things i have found out about the craftsmanship and irresponsibility of this company

My 2009 Nissan Rogue's transmission blew up yesterday. No warning. Sudden onset, within the same day. Received a case# because I am covered by the extended power train warranty. Towed it to Conyers Nissan, but didn't tell them I had a case #. They called me in the afternoon to tell me they had bad news. I need a new transmission at the tune of $4250. I asked why the transmission failed, and he said the belt just broke. Now, mind you, 2 years ago they did the CVT transmission maintenance right on schedule. 107,650 approx miles. I'm 7 months away from paying off the car. The payoff is less than the repair cost. When I first spoke with Nissan corporate consumer protection, I called them while I was stranded with a freshly blown tranny. When I finished my story the Nissan representative asked me: "Exactly what do you want us to do?" Really? I mean REALLY! Had I not informed her that I knew of the power train extended warranty, shwie would have given me the run around. She had no intention of telling me what Nissan could do. Undoubtedly coached by Nissan Corporation to not bring the drive train extended warranty up to anyone who calls with a CVT covered by the new extended warranty. Two years ago i had to replace the air conditioner compressor, which set me back almost $3k! They gave me the big middle finger on that problem. This was my third, and last Nissan automobile. What the hell happened to this car company!? I was planning to drive this car to 250-300k miles. This was highway robbery! I demand remuneration.

I have a 2014 Sentra and the tranny just went out. The dealership doesn't know why. It had the slipping and the judder. If a lawsuit gets started I am in. This is wrong have never had a car tranny go out at 110,00 miles.

How do I join a class action lawsuit against Nissan for their crappy CVT?

Purchased used 2012 Nissan Versa SV with 93,385 miles. After 3 weeks of driving the transmission died. Unbelievable, I've been driving used cars for 40 years and never lost a transmission. This is my first and last Nissan product, I will never recommend them as this is apparently a know problem. I spoke to at least a dozen transmission shops while looking for a replacement trany and they all say the same thing about the Nissan CVT, and the Versa in particular. The Versa CVT often fails at or below 90,000 and is almost guaranteed to fail between 120,000 and 160,000.

I found a shop that will do the work for just the cost of labor and wholesale parts, and the cost is still $3,000(the dealership wanted $4200). Nissan actually stocks their own re-manufactured CVTs for just this case. They wholesale in NY for $2,146 and change, with an installation cost of $753 and between 7-9 quarts of NS-2 transmission fluid at $20 a pop that puts me at 3 grand with all the taxes. Its unbelievable that they get away with this.

Note to self: Never buy a CVT of any kind. They are easily 2-3 times as expensive as a regular automatic transmission and they can't be taken apart and fixed at your local transmission shop. And, as an indicator for how crappy they are, there is a booming market for them on the rebuilt/re-manufactured side of the house.

Hello, I have purchased a 2013 Nissan Sentra from a used car dealer with 42,000 miles on it and knew nothing about problems with the Nissan CVT transmissions, and when i hit 45,000 miles the Transmission blew, while just cruising on highway at 65 miles an hour, they replaced transmission st the local dealer. 1 week later cruising on highway and the same thing, the Transmission stopped working and they told me a seal blew that was not properly installed on the replacement transmission. Which i truly don’t believe, now on Christmas eve the transmission blew again, i do have 142,000 miles but i travel a lot of miles on the highway, and now told I need another transmission. This will be the 3rd one in a year, and when I spoke on phone, with an independent Transmission person, told me these CVT transmissions are a piece of garbage and I should keep them in stock. I have been driving cars for almost 36 years and have replaced more transmissions in this car than all combined. Some with 331,000 miles. This repair will cost about $3600.00 which I don’t have and need my car for work, Called Nissan Consumer Affairs and they are no help either. Go on line Nissan, looks like over 300 complaints about this transmission in your vehicles and growing on a daily bases. You need to replace for the average person that needs to make a living to support their families or just scrap the CVT transmissions!!!

in February 2016, my 2012 Versa, just beyond power chain warranty, failed in an intersection. .CVT transmission failure. I am in touch as of this moment with lawyers who are gathering info for a class action suit. I want my 3200.00 plus rental car bill. Oh yeah, Nissan lower the power chain warranty from the 2011 from 70,000 to 60,000, because of all the complaints. They knew it was bad but they sold the product anyway, THEY KNEW

i brought a 2014 new versa note from petro nissan in hattiesburg ms. before i got home the ac quit. they fixed it. my transmission locked up , had it drug upon a tow truck an hauled to nissan dealership where they patched it up. at 90,834 nissan did a recall on the transmission and after that it started slipping, i carried it back several times and they said its supposed to do that. now at a little over 114k, it's will now pull even with the gas pedal to the floor, finally got it to the dealership, for service, and they quickly hands me a bill for $105 for diagnose it and $4,000 to fix the problem!!!!! After they started the problem, because AND I QUOTED, I HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION UNTIL THEY DID THE RECALL SERVICE ON IT!!!! i am very interested in being apart of the class action lawsuit against nissan....

I'm not understanding why Nissan keeps selling these faulty transmissions. I have a 2013 Nissan Altima. I had to replace the transmission. It was currently under extended warranty. Before it was replaced the car had to be investigated. I had over 6 car failures at stop signs with children in the car very scary. brought vehicle to Nissan several times they could not figure it out . They kept saying it was other things wrong which I had replaced when it was unnessasary. Its been alittle over a year and I am now experiencing the car jumping like before . Something has to be down about this. very costly .

The whole Nissan dealership leadership is now under new management I wonder why. I don't believe they were knowledable at all. I was there every week. they kept saying again again.

Well I am joining everyone of us who has a Nissan and our CVT transmission went out and on top of that the airbag recall. What did we buy a piece of junk? I have a 2008 Nissan Versa SL I am just about 100 miles over the warranty of the 10/120 and I begged Nissan Corporation to help me. I am 66 and on social Security Income I cannot afford to buy another transmission. I was quoted around 4300 for another one. I went to a private transmission shop and paid 3000 my sister loaned me the money that I am now doing without food to pay her back. I think the transmission shop cheated me. When I gave them the go ahead to repair the transmission they told me it would be a week that it was coming out of california. The very next day that evening they called me and told me my car was ready and that they had found the same kind of cvt 2008 just like mine. After I paid the 3000 I got to thinking I bet when he started taking the cvt out he found the problem and fixed it. So telling me the same year and model he used was the same as he took out. Also instead of week it was the next day. I had no previous problems with my Versa just one day when I accelerated it would not get any gas . I wonder if there is a way to tell if he put the same cvt back in and charged me for a rebuilt one?? Is there a serial number on a cvt?? Is there a lawsuit where I can get my money back.?? I am struggling now and doing with out food now because of this. Please comment?

I just bought a 2013 Versa with 61000 miles. Excellent condition verified by an I dependent, reputable mechanic. The transmission failed this week. This has got to stop. We must try to get another class action suit going here. They continue to pit FAULTY transmissions in these vehicles then when they fail, good luck finding an I dependent mechanic to work on it! You are stuck paying dealership prices. What a load of garbage. Let's do this!

2009 Nissan Rogue...falls under the warranty from what I can tell but struggled with Nissan to get them to hear our complaint. Wednesday the car will be dropped at the dealer for repair. I didn't know about all of this when I bought a 2012 Nissan Rogue for another daughter--but before the 2009 tranny died. I am worried after the 2009 died that the 2012 will too as I have no faith tin Nissan at this point. I am also worried that I will have no warranty recourse with the newer model and fear for my daughter and grandson's safety. I find it very disheartening that Nissan seems to lack any sense of respect and empathy for consumers.

I have a 2014 Nissan Pathfinder I bought the car 2015 with 25,000 miles. I have 58,000 miles on the truck presently. I have been to the Nissan dealership once last year about the OCS recall but they didn't have the piece and never called about the restock of the OCS sensor. While I was there I mention to the Nissan Rep that the truck hesitated when it was on a hill he says to me that that was normal and those cars do that. Just called the Nissan Corp and there is no recall on the truck besides the OCS sensor. Recently the truck shudders before it takes off time to time while sitting at a light or even backing out the drive way. I have a 07 Altima I had for 8 years and never had these issues. I just want to get rid of the truck at this point but ill be stuck with a loan.

We own a 2015 Nissan altima with 67,000 miles.
On my way to vacation my transmission started acting up. The rpms would shoot up from 2k to 3-4k while driving 65 -70 mph on Interstate. At this time I tried giving the car gas and it would not accelerate but the rpms would move up. I pulled over to the nearest service station which was closed. We then had no choice but to try and drive the car to Florida or be stranded for hours in a town with a car load of children. I pulled out and the car would hardly move but after a few seconds the car slowly started moving and picking up speed. I then got back to 65 mph and steadily keep it at this speed. I went to the Nissan Dealership in Panama City Beach (never go to this Dealership young kids running service dept. I tried to get manager they said there was no one there). I explained problem they advised it would cost me $115 dollars to look at the problem. I stated this is a 2 yr old car with 67k miles. They advised the warranty went out at 60k miles (NOW i KNOW WHY IT WAS SET AT 60K MILES, because that is when all the issues began with cvt transmissions) I advised the young girl I would go to a service station and have them look at it. I went to Pep boys auto service (WHICH I HIGHLY RECOMMEND GREAT SERVICE) They advised the code was a sensor in the transmission and gave me several recalls that nissan had out. I then went back to the Nissan Dealer again DO NOT use this place. Who advised to me that they could have done that for free, and those recalls were nothing but bulletins and everyone that had used the recalls that were supposedly bulletins had more issues than they did before the work was done, and they had to spend more money to fix it out of there own pocket. I then told them i would take my chances and drive the car back to the dealership that I bought it from. Hopefully my dealership in Spring hill Tn will stand behind there car. I will find out this week.

I own a 2013 Nissan Altima. At 57,000 miles my transmission was replaced. I was told it would take a few months to get one as they were behind due to all the transmissions needing repair. 3 days later after complaining to Nissan manufacturer, my car had a new transmission in it? When I went and picked it up i asked how they were able to get one so fast? They said they had one "laying" around. I fell as though they pulled it from a junk yard! My transmission feels as though it is going out again. Shortly after the transmission was replaced I was using my cruise control on the freeway at 78 as I pushed on the brake to merge off the freeway my car accelerated and wouldn't stop!!! Talk about your life flashing before you? This car is a lemon. I will never ever own another Nissan again. This was my Brand too!!

I have a 2010 Maxima with only 75k miles on it. Transmission failed suddenly with no warning while I was 500 miles from home on vacation. On a road with no cell service in a small town with no Nissan dealer. So I had a tow charge, diagnostic charge with the local mechanic and five days rental car expense, none of which should have happened. AND they towed it to a dealer 50 miles away who said it would take a week to get the transmission replaced. So I would have had to stay an extra four days on my trip with lodging, rental car and food expenses, none of which Nissan would reimburse if I hadn't had an amazing friend who was willing to drive 1000 miles with a trailer to tow my car home.

My 2014 Nissan Altima started having issues about a month ago. It was stalling and not accelerating. It has 85,000 miles on it and is out of warranty. One day it would not shift at all and I could not get it to go fast than 15 mph. Fortunately I was not a highway. The dealer told me the CVT transmission needs to be replaced, it is a $4,300 repair. My vehicle cannot be safely driven on the freeway meaning that I am without a vehicle to help me navigate my daily 45 mile commute to a new job that I started a month ago. The Nissan dealer referred me to consumer affairs with a promise they would be in contact by the end of the following business day. Three days later they called and told me they could not process anything without the vehicle being taken back to the dealership. I am now another week away from knowing if they will help at all.

I bought 2012 Nissan Rogue with 38K miles in 2016 from a dealer. Have reported to Nissan Consumer Affairs and dealership of this Transmission issue and problems with acceleration, Nissan Consumer Affairs said then reach out to dealer and send full diagnostics report. Dealer says since there is no check engine, they won't able to zero down the issue. They said drive it and if you get the check engine on, come to us. Now at 47K miles my check engine is on. Called to Nissan Consumer Affairs and they say my power train warranty on transmission expired last month...Dealer says need to get new transmission which I need to pay from my pocket..but that also won't guarantee this will solve the problem. What crap engine Nissan is making which fail under 50K..they are cheating us..please include me to file Class Action Lawsuit against Nissan...

Our 2013 Altima just had its THIRD CVT put in. It has 66000 miles on it. Dealer replaced the CVT in less than 2 days under the extended warranty with $100 deductible. We owe far more than the car is worth & will have to absorb that when we trade in the car. No other car dealer wants these "junkers" & offers low ball trade in value. There must be some kind of Class Action against Nissan or they will never fix this problem.

I took my car to Pep boys and they told me that my transmission was the problem but a notification came up that my transmission warranty had been extended to 120,000 miles and suggested that I take it to Nissan. I did and that is where I got hit for a $2600.00 bill for repair. The repair included an add on transmission cooler. Should this not hove been installed at the factory ? I also experienced a loss of power. At the dealership I experienced a whole other form of Hell.

I pulled over looked the hood checked all my fluids and they were fine. I sat there for min and then started the car back and it drove just fine like nothing ever happen. Then a few weeks later my check engine light popped on. I contacted my dealer and the car in on 07/5/17. Well today is 07/24/17 and still do not have my car and they now tell me my transmissions needs to be replaced . I asked how on a car that is only 2 years old. I keep my car maintenance updated as normal. So I called the corporate and now I am waiting to hear back regarding this lemon I am paying a note.

Please comment if you are willing to start a lawsuit against Nissan again.

My 2013 Altima cvt died completely at 49k after 2 services and was replaced now the replacement is doing the same "slipping" it did before it died last time. Currently at 74k.

We bought a 2008 Nissan Rogue new and had the 4 cylinder transmission failure at 100,000 miles. Dealership told us it would cost $3500 to fix. They ended up talking us into buying a new car instead of fixing it. I'm still PO'd about this. Can't believe a class action lawsuit wasn't taken out on this issue

Bought my 2013 Altima in April 2015 with 44,000 miles on it. Here I am at 80,000 and the transmission is out. Dealer wants $4000 to fix it when I still owe on it. Paying on a vehicle I cannot afford to fix. I bought this car becasue I had always heard Nissan was reliable. Big joke.

We bought our 2013 nissan rogue in May of 2014. It had 657 miles on it. I Love my car and have taken great care of it. Looks like it did the day we bought it. In March of 2017, coming home from a trip with 75000 miles on it, the car began to lose power, yet the rpm rose to 4000. We were on a major freeway at night. We pulled over twice, finally we were able to get back on the road, but very dangerous when speed limit is 75 and we could only do 50. At some point we had to change from I 49 to I 20 in Shreveport LA. We were so glad there wasn't much traffic, but were still in dangerous situation. found out it was the cvt transmission and it cost us 3300.00 to fix. Well it really isn't fixed since another cvt transmission was put in the car. We have no confidence in this car anymore. Will trade it as soon as we make a few more payments. I am heartbroken. This also means my husband will not get another vehicle when it is time for his new ride.

We bought a new 2014 Pathfinder in August, 2014 and have experienced only occasional issues with the juddering - specifically when going slowly uphill (i.e. our driveway), and once at high altitudes in stop and go traffic in a construction zone. I received the class action lawsuit postcard, and then notified the dealer of our issues. They had the car for just minutes today and did a software update they said should cure the problem. We will have to see what happens. The car has just under 28,000 miles.

I have a 2014 Nissan versa with 111,000 mile on it. My transmission just went out and they want to charge me $3800 for it. I still owe $8000 on it..

I have a 2013 Pathfinder that began having issues at 22,000. Nissan finally replaced the CVT transmission at 70,000. Since that time four (4) additional transmissions have been installed for a total of five (5)!! This vehicle is dangerous and Nissan knows this yet they refuse to accept responsibility for their defective junk as is evidenced by the number of class action lawsuits. This company has no integrity and senior leadership should be ashamed of themselves for allowing this problem to get to this point.

2013 Nissan Sentra
75,000 miles
currently having the transmission replaced for this "judder" (did we really need to make up a word for it?)

We had a 2013 Pathfinder, and got rid of it at the end of 2015 when we typically keep our cars for 8+ years. It didn't have the judder problem but we had it in the shop several times for not downshifting when we put it in low and it was under 15mph, the transmission would actually upshift quite a bit when it dropped to 15mph which caused us to overheat the brakes a couple of times. They kept lying to us and telling us this was normal and how a CVT operates. Even after we were able to show them first hand the problem in action and agreed it was a significant problem they continued to give us the run around so we got rid of it for a Ford and haven't even looked back until we got a notice about the class action lawsuit in the mail.

I have a 2013 Nissan Altima and I took it to the dealer like 2 years ago with shutting off problem and they told they couldn't find any problems with it and I kept driving it missing here and there, today I took it for the cvt transmission recall and they told me that it needs a new tranny and is out of warranty it has 88,000 miles on it now. any suggestion on what to do I am afraid if a put a new tranny it will do this again and I am still paying it.

I purchased a brand new 2007 Nissan Altima S in 2006 which was the 1st Model with the CVT Transmission. This car started out with brake issues that Nissan could not repair after at least 5 attempts. I I went to a hearing after filing a complaint & providing documentation about the brakes and won, but Nissan wanted me to pay them $1,600 to take the car back & get another car.... why would I have to pay $1,600 when I could have traded the car in myself and paid $0 down..... I hate I did not get rid of the car back in 2008 myself......,,,The CVT transmission was replaced in 2011 due to issues. I never received any correspondence from Nissan that there were any issues or recalls with the transmission. I just happen to do a google search about the CVT transmissions and found out Nissan was replacing them for free due to so many customer complaints. Now in 2017, I am having CVT transmission issues again... looked on www.nissanassist.com and contacted consumer affairs yesterday and asked about the new extended warranty as listed on the webpage and was advised my extended warranty expired 12/16/16.... really? Again, I have not recd any correspondence advising me of this and my address has not changed. I was informed I would need to pay for a diagnostic at a Nissan dealership and then file a claim with Consumer affairs to see what assistance if any can be provided......I never had a reason to check for updated extended warranty bc I was not having any problems. This is ridiculous.... I will never purchase or recommend Nissan to anyone... this is not a good look for the company & Nissan should discontinue the CVT transmission 'repair cars for free since their reputation is tarnished.... need a class action....

I own a 2008 Nissan rogue and the tranny failed at 150,000 KM. The extended warrantee is not worth the paper its written on. They will not help or even check to see what is broken in the tranny. They say the replacement fluid that was put in the tranny is the wrong colour for them even though the product used states on the jug that it is good for cvt Nissan trannys.
They never proved the problem but I did at my own expense of 4100.00. I would join a class action.

I have an 08 sentra with the cvt transmission problems. They have had it in the shop for 3 weeks and denied repairs under the warranty because the transmission fluid is red. I used Castrol brand and the cvt ns2 fluid is red. Who can I talk to for help?

I bought a 2005 Nissan Altima and the transmission failures in spent 3500 to get it Repair. It had on 75,000. I turned around and bought a 2015 Altima brand new 12 miles and drove it for 1 week and with only 128 mile the transmission died they fixed it ... they would not take the car back and give me a new one. The car is still giving me problems

I have a 2011 Nissan Rouge w/115,000 miles. I guess we've been lucky until my wife hit a large dog. According to my dealerships service department the impact caused internal damage to the transmission and needs to be replaced at a cost of $3,600. My insurance company has denied the claim because there is no cosmetic damage and I was told by them that the Nissan Rouge has faulty transmissions and therefor there not paying. I also tried to get help from Nissan support group but that was like talking to a block wall! So I just got screwed twice! If there's a class action lawsuit count me in. This will be the last Nissan that I'll own!!!!!!

My Nissan Rogue transmission quit on me while I was in the car with my two children pulling out into an intersection from my daughter's school. Thank goodness there were no cars coming or it would have seriously injured us (or worse). I purchased the car 5 years ago and it has about 90K miles on it. Nissan customer service refused to do anything about the transmission. They wanted me to pay $700 for a diagnosis and it would have been another $4300 to replace the transmission. Terrible customer service and terrible vehicle.

I have had my 2013 Nissan Altima a little under 2 years and my transmission just went out due to a CVT issue. They also have several bulletins out about the CVT issue, so Nissan is aware. I have read over 500 complaints regarding this issue and not one had ended with Nissan helping the customer. How do we get a class action attorney to look into this?

I have a 2008 Nissan Altima and Christmas evening driving home on the interstate my car just stopped pulling!! No warning no problems what so ever. Nissan has known about these bad CVT TRANSMISSIONS and unless you meet their extended warranty of their extended warranty of 120,000 miles or 10 yrs which ever comes first they won't fix it. So now I'm stuck with a broken car with a price tag of a new transmission and basically a remanufactured one at that at a cost of 3500.00. There needs to be a lawsuit filed! This is terrible!! This company has made millions If not billions of dollars off of these vehicles with these bad transmissions, I HIGHLY DOUBT IT WILL BANKRUPT THEM TO REPLACE THESE CRAPPY TRANSMISSIONS! I loved my Nissan and bragged on it many many times, if this is not taken care of, I'll NEVER buy another nissan in my life and will be posting to other sites as well as fb to encourage other not to buy them. My name is Mary Stevens, from Mississippi I can be found on fb if anyone has any answer or has filed a lawsuit that I can join in.

My 2013 Nissan Altima SV just hit over 71,000 and the transmission died on me. It first cut off on me when i was leaving work, then the next day it jerked and cut off on me in traffic while turning through an intersection. It could have caused an accident. Nissan needs to rectify this issue or atleast have these transmissions replaced. Had to pay damn near $4K to have one replaced.

I have a 2012 Nissan Rogue I have experienced the same problem with the cvt transmission. It started with my car loosing power and no acceleration then a loud whining noise and finally the car won't move. From various forums this is very common and it's nota coincidence that it's happening Nissan should take responsibility there is no way a car this new should have transmission problems when maintenance is done routinely my car went out with no warning no engine lights am looking to join a class lawsuit for this or better yet start one

2014 Nissan Sentra 51,000 miles has same hesitation and couple days ago it started shaking while my daughter was driving and shut down right on main highway! This was her car and we just got rid of it! I'm never buying another Nissan

I have a 09 Altima that has been having issues for the last 3 years with the CVT transmission I could not take it out of town because it would ride smooth for about 2 hours and then would not accelerate past 20-30 mph after that unless I was on a hill. Every time this would I happen I would take it right to Nissan and they would try to mimic it and it never would do it again (according to them). Now I am sitting here past the warranty extension and now my car shows the codes for transmission failure and they slap me with a $4400 bill for a used transmission. The only solution other than replacement of the transmission is buying another car from them, I THINK NOT!!! They should be recalling cars from 07-14 .

I have a 2013 Nissan Altima. I had experienced a shudder or hesitation when I both accelerate or decelerate, much like other drivers have experienced. However, I was driving on the highway today and got off the exit ramp. As I was approaching the light and close to a dead stop, my car stalled or "locked up". All lights were on but I had no power-steering and my check engine and battery light came on. I put the car in park and started it again. It started but then when I put it in drive, the same thing happened as it stalled. I repeated the process and the second time around, it sputtered and stayed on while in drive. I quickly drove it to the nissan dealer down the street and left it with them. They were closed and I have yet to talk to them but after reading up on it, I'm absolutely convinced that the sputtering and stall are a correlation of a bad CVT transmission. Luckily, I should still be covered by the warranty since I bought it in 2012 and only have 56,000 miles on it. Still it shouldn't be happening and I'm interested to see what the dealership will have to say!

This happened to me and my Nissan Sentra 2013 this week. Shudder, shaking and jumping when accelerating. You HAVE to take it to the Nissan dealership. They have an open "Campaign" for repairs of the CVT transmission BUT no recall for this issue. It's completely crazy that they are getting away with just extending the transmission warranty. People's lives are at stake here!!

I just had similar issue with my 2013 Nissan Altima this week. My car just shutdown on a freeway turnoff after the light turned green. No sign of issue or warning. I had to put the car in part and start the car few times but each time i tried to step on the gas the car would turn off. Very dangerous issue. no trouble light warning or even vibration or tell tell sign that my car had and issue. I brought it to the dealer and right away they told me that i have to change my transmission! its only 4 years old... its going to cost 10% of my original purchase price.. not covered by the warranty because i have more than 50K on my odometer.... WANT A RELIABLE CAR??!! STAY WAY FROM NISSAN
