Pella Windows Lawsuit

A consumer fraud/product defect class action lawsuit is currently pending in Illinois against the manufacturer of Pella Windows. The owners of Pella Windows may have defective windows installed in their homes or commercial buildings which were manufactured by Pella beginning in 1991. These windows may be causing damage to the structure and/or may be internally defective so damage is not visible to the naked eye. Typically, the windows are alleged to allow water to intrude through the seams and edges and the water then damages the internal mechanism of the window and, in some cases, causes structural damage.

The windows are marketed and sold to consumers as a "top of the line", high-end product for new construction or for the replacement of existing windows in existing construction. They are used in homes, residential buildings such as condominiums, apartment buildings and townhomes, as well as commercial buildings. The windows are advertised to the public as being "worry-free" and bearing a lifetime warranty.

when spending the amount of money we did for a top quality window and having the problems with them; pella Windows, should stand behind their products, instead having us as your consumers, climbing ladders or on roofs to reach the high windows to seal the window sills every two to three years as told by your representative to avoid this leakage of water into the windows and damage our home. We Called several times to have a representative come out and inspect the problem only to get the response that our windows are out of warranty. But they had a 20 year warranty. What about your representative following up when the warranty was in effect and we called during that warranty? Where were you then?

I purchased (1996) a house in Ocean Pines, MD, built in the late 1980's. I has a sun room with four large vertical windows and four large angled panels on the roof, aligned with the windows. In addition, two sliding doors are on the sides. They are all Pella made.
The windows/roof panels leaked from the start, and I tried to seal the seams as best I could. A vertical member covered with clad rotted. I had to replace it. It has been an ongoing issue. I just learned today (May 29, 2018) about the ongoing issues relative to Pella's defective products.
How can I join the lawsuit...?

Built house in 1993, have replaced one slider, 6 crank out windows now find most of the first floor windows are also rotted. All windows rotted at the bottom of window or door. We are getting no help from Pella dealers, have not tried to contact the company but from what I have read they will not respond.

Windows installed in our home built in 1995 have broken seals, the windows now have bad spotting and rotting issues. We are even unable to open or close one of our windows the rotting is so bad. Upon confronting Pella local supervisors will not return phone calls after multiple attempts. After multiple attempts to speak with Pella in Iowa we are told the windows only have a 10 year warranty. 3 Different contractors have looked at the problem and all have the same response... "this should not be happening, they are defective."

Every window has black mold and stains. The finish is damaged on all windows. On a bank of windows facing the east, the moisture has damaged the wall under the windows.

All operating windows and French doors installed in new house (valued now at over $2,000,000) failed due to defects in design (see above). Pictures taken and inspected by engineer hired by me. He concluded in writing that a design flaw had caused the problem. I paid Pella to come out and inspect damage in Oct. 2007. Pella refused to do anything about the problem. They sugggested buying all new windows for the house, which would have cost in excess of $100,000 with installation.

The Pella "wood with vinyl cladding" units leak causing the water to enter the window, and go into the walls. Pella has sent replacement windows but will not pay for the labor to install them or repair the damages. I also have an email from a Pella salesman that says the windows are defective. I am in the process with a contractor to replace two of the replacement units that Pella delivered - one sash has been replaced in another room - one sash is on order for another room. I have a video of the windows and the extensive damage. Two window units will be replaced next week along with the repairs to the damages. I will store the defective windows.

In 2001 Pella replaced one large window in my home and I had to pay the installation cost of $700. I have another window that is leaking water, ruining my woodwork, they will not cover the window replacement, nor costs of damages to workwork. I was told by a Pella rep that all my windows need to be reglazed.

Windows have structural rot below siding all around the windows we have examined. Window hardware is poor and in some cases does not work anymore. We can't crank the window in because it gets stuck. We have had Pella out to look at the hardware but not the structural damage. We do have pictures when our contractor was doing the work. The Pella service tech. never was able to fix the windows and told us that they were good windows. The lower left corner of window says: Pella Low-E Glass.

We have windows in many locations of the house which have exterior finish deterioration, are leaking, have significant damage such that they do not function, they have caused significant damage to interior walls and window trim, fungus has grown where water has seeped in through the faulty seals -- even though this was from windows installed prior to 1991, I believe the problems existed far before that date. I have spoken with many people who have similar experiences.

We have already had to replace 4 windows and 1 door in our house. We do anticipate replacing many more. We have extensive rot in the 3 panel sliding window and a very large picture window at the present time. The house was built in 1995.

I purchased Designer Classic all wood windows & doors when I was building my house. The windows & doors were delivered on 09/26/1995 and 10/24/1996. I did not receive a warranty card or form but was told by the Pella Sales Rep that at the time I was getting quotes for windows the Pella warranty was one year but if I ordered them from his company my windows and doors would have the new warranty that Pella was starting when they would be delivered and that warranty would be the new 10/20 year warranty and he also stated that I would not have to worry about the length of the warranty because Pella would stand behind their windows if there was any problem even if the warranty period had past and also told me the windows would last as long as my house.
The windows begin to show signs of rotting within three years of installation and have continued to deteriate to this date even though they have been well taken care of (ie; cleaned, painted, chaulked, ect.) on a more than regular basis.
I tried for almost seven years to get the Pella store that I bought the windows & doors from to come out and take a look at the problem and continued to get the same "song & dance" for me to not worry about the problem that they would take care of it in due time.
Finally about a year or so back they sent someone out to look at my windows and the person they sent said that Pella had lots of problems with rotting during the time frame my windows & doors were manufactured and gave no other reason for the rotting problem.
A few weeks after he looked at the problem I got a call from the Pella Store and was told that my windows and doors only had a one year warranty and there was nothing they could do to help me other than sell me new windows & doors.
This story is condensed to give you an overview of my situation with Pella and does not get in detail about the numerous phone calls made to Pella and the Pella Store and the lies told to me, the unreturned phone calls to the Pella Store, the no-shows when they were scheduled to meet me at my house to inspect the windows and the lack of conceren about the problem.
The windows & doors were purchased from J.F. Day & Company, Inc., Birmingham, AL 35233.

I talked to Pella Michigan in November and arranged for a sales representative to visit my home. A complaint letter was sent in May 2007 as recommended by the Michigan sales representative. No response from Pella so far.
