Plavix Heart Attack and Stroke

file your Plavix caseAlthough approved by the FDA, the blood thinner Plavix has been found to nearly double the risk of a first heart attack or stroke in patients with high cholesterol or high blood pressure.

Plavix plus low-dose aspirin therapy was believed to prevent heart attack and stroke, but doctors are now being urged not to prescribe Plavix plus low-dose aspirin to patients who have not had a previous heart attack.

A recent study of 15,000 patients found an excess of bleeding and deaths among the patients who received the combination therapy.

Although the Plavix/aspirin combination has some benefit for patients who have previously had a heart attack or stroke, researchers were surprised to find that the combination therapy actually increased the heart attack risk for patients who had no previous heart attack or stroke.

I have been on Plavix for years and I have gastrointestinal bleeding and have had two blood transfusion. I am weak and tired all of the time. I don't want to eat, confused and depressed. I suffer from chronic anemia. While taking plavix I had surgery and during surgery I had a heart attack. My doctors have continued me on plavix and aspirin even though I have gastrointestinal bleeding, suffer from chronic anemia, and I have peptic ulcer disease. I was given blood on August 11, 2011 and tested positive for blood in my stool. I have taken myself off of Plavix effective today out of fear of bleeding to death.
