The U.S. government is investigating the Prius gasoline electric hybrid sedan. There have been complaints about sudden engine stalls and engines shutting down without warning in the 2004 and 2005 model years. No accidents have been reported but there are accounts of stalling between 35 and 65 mph. Some drivers were able to operate the vehicle in electric mode for a time and half of the cars would not restart and had to be towed.
