Unfair Medical Charges for Crash Victims in Florida Medical Center

- by

Santa Clara, CA: Allegations of fraud have been filed against North Okaloosa Medical Center in Florida, by a man who claims he was charged $40,000 to have four scans done in the center’s emergency room after a car accident.

Court documents indicate that MacNeil was in a car accident in October, 2016. During the accident another vehicle turned left in front of his, striking his car and causing injuries to his head, neck, wrist, shoulder and ribs. He was transported via paramedics to North Okaloosa Medical Center, the only emergency room in north Okaloosa County, and was administered four CT scans before being released to recover at home.

The center then billed MacNeil nearly $50,000, $40,000 of which was for the four CT scans. According to a press release from his attorneys, George Washington MacNeil, an Okaloosa county resident, is suing the hospital for “charging automobile accident victims exorbitant amounts for CT scans” and violating the Florida Motor Vehicle No-Fault Law, which prohibits hospitals from charging car crash victims unreasonable amounts for medically necessary services.

MacNeil alleges is not alone, claiming that there are others who have been overcharged for CT scans at the center’s ER.

I was involved in an MVA back in 10/30/2011 but didn’t seek treatment until 11/1/11 .. my credit was ruined 2/12/12 when this hospital didn’t bill on automobile Insurance company . I . tried to purchase a home and get an home equity line of credit , but was denied.. I had an open collection on my credit reports.. I disputed this information with the credit bureaus.. I contacted my insurance company they paid the 3 yrs bill , but it didn’t undo the damage or cost involved.. This same hospital put an lien for this MVA ( fraudulently) on my home .. I was never treated for injuries from an MVA on 3/31/12 .. this was an personal health crisis.. I even paid my $100.00 deductible at the time of service.. fast ward to 2018 trying to purchase my auntie’s home and refinance 2 medical lien each for almost $4000 each double billing error .couldn't do anything until this liens were removed .. this has cost me over 1 million in lost real estate deals..

I was in a car accident as well, less than 2 years ago. I was charged a lot of money just for X-rays. They told me nothing was wrong but my paper work said I had whiplash and an injured back. My PIP wasn't able to cover anything and I'm sure I'm in debt to the hospital of some kind but I haven't even received anything from the hospital either
