United Parcel Service

The class action lawsuit trial has begun against United Parcel Service Inc. The suit was filed on behalf of approximately 900 former and current hearing-impaired employees who claim that the company discriminated against them. The case was originally filed by one employee, Eric Bates, who claimed that the company continually blocked his attempts to drive a delivery truck, in spite of the fact that he had obtained certification from the U.S. Department of Transportation to drive a delivery truck over 10,000 pounds. The suit also claims that the company did not provide adequate training and safety instructions for their hearing impaired employees, and that they were rarely promoted to driving or supervisory roles.
