Class action status has been granted to a lawsuit filed against the York County Jail in Maine. The suit was filed to challenge the jail's policy of strip-searching all prisoners by a woman who was strip-searched after being arrested for driving after license suspension. The recommended class would include anyone strip-searched after October 1996, unless they were accused of violent felonies or crimes involving drugs or weapons.
