$11.75M Wellbutrin XL Class Action Settlement Reached

This is a settlement for the Antitrust lawsuit.

New York, NY: An $11.75 million settlement has been tentatively agreed in the Wellbutrin XL antitrust class action filed against Valeant Pharmaceuticals International Inc, and GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). If you bought Wellbutrin XL® or its Generic equivalent, the proposed class action settlement could affect you.

This matter is a lawsuit against Valeant Pharmaceuticals, Inc., formerly Biovail Corp. ("Biovail"), and SmithKline Beecham Corporation doing business as GlaxoSmithKline and GlaxoSmithKline plc (collectively "GSK") (together with Biovail, "Defendants"), the companies that manufactured and marketed the antidepressant Wellbutrin XL.

The lawsuit, entitled In re: Wellbutrin XL Antitrust Litigation, Case No. 8-cv-2433, U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Pennsylvania, alleges the pharmaceutical manufacturers worked together to delay the availability of less expensive, generic versions of Wellbutrin XL. Anyone who purchased Wellbutrin XL or its generic equivalent in the following states may be eligible to claim part of the settlement, if it is approved: California, Florida, Nevada, New York, Tennessee and/or Wisconsin.

For additional information regarding this lawsuit, proposed settlement, and for obtaining a Claim, visit: http://www.wxlclassaction.com/.

My husband was prescribed Wellbutrin to help stop smoking.
He took the drug for over a year.
His doctor gave him sample packages that he received from pharmaceutical companies, when he no longer had anymore samples, my husband was given a prescription for the drug.
After a year and a half my husband stopped taking the drug, for two reasons-the cost was too high and he felt he was over his addiction.
Less than 3 months after stopping, he committed suicide. I have been devastated ever since. Afterwards I read that Wellbutrin causes suicidal tendencies.

I had two seizures between 2014-2015 after taking Buproprion. I had drank some alcohol the night before but had never had a seizure before that time. I even cracked my forehead open during one of the seizures. I have a medical record of this. This risk was not on the label. I have never drank alcohol on a daily basis. Please be advised that my laptop has been hacked recently. I am staying at the Poverello in Missoula, MT. There is a chance that someone may claim to be me, as I am a victim of identity theft.

I've been taking Wellbutrin for a few years at low doses and am impacted greatly by tinnitus. I just don't want to lose my hearing over some drug. I take Abilify also so I'm not sure if it's that either or both. I wish I didn't need to take scripts but I have schizoeffective disorder and need to be on something to combat that. I hope my doc doesn't brush off my side effects next time I see him. Hope you all get help.

My doc prescribed Wellbutrin in conjunction with B12 for seasonal depression. I took one tablet and experienced tinnitus the next day. I almost ALWAYS research side effects but this time I did not as I trust my PCP. I feel betrayed as she should have discussed this life altering nuisance with me. I’ve visited the ENT at which I’m told there’s nothing that can be done. This has affected my social and emotional well being! I’m not understanding why there hasn’t been research to help people with this issue. Reading the comments, people have contemplated suicide due the issue being unbearable.
I’m seeking legal guidance on this matter. Why is this drug still in the market?

I’ve been on Wellbutrin 300 mg for several years. 1/2 my hair has fallen out. I have bald areas above my tempels. No family hx of hair loss in women. I just read about hair loss with Wellbutrin. My husband is a dr. I am a nurse. He didn’t think it was from Wellbutrin but I quit the medication this week. I hope my hair comes back!!!

I had to see a psychiatrist to get my ADHD meds because my new doctor would not prescribe them to me. So, I did that but the psychiatrist would not give me my Rx that I was on, instead gave me a very low dose and added Wellbutrin. I discussed with my doctor a month later that I feel as if I am not on any medication. So, she bumped me from 150 to 300mg of Wellbutrin. I know it is known for weight loss, but it did the opposite. I gained OVER 30lbs in 2 months, had insatiable ( impossible to satisfy) cravings for things like Milk and sweet carbs. My hair also became really wiry and course, then started to fall out. It was not helping my ADHD at all and actually made me worse. I couldn't keep thoughts straight, I couldn't think of words that I use regularly when speaking, and I was just a mess. My doctors (primary care and psychiatrist) both told me that the weight gain was because of my age (42) and not the medication, even though I have been actively losing weight prior to this. They told me that there is no way possible for me to gain weight on Wellbutrin. I had my doctor run some blood work. My very well managed Cholesterol is now at almost 300. My thyroid levels (which have not changed in 5 years on medication) is now low. My liver functions tests came back HIGH also. My doctors basically told me it's because I'm fat. I've gained weight and that is why everything is off. So, they just told me to see a nutritionist. I stopped taking the wellbutrin on my own. My hair is starting to feel softer, I've lost 2lbs (I've only been off it for 2 weeks), thoughts and speech are getting better, and my crazy cravings are gone. I'm also not the only person who has gained weight on Wellbutrin, there are hundreds of people online that have had the same issues with cravings, hair problems and weight gain. I don't know why NONE of these issues mentioned on this site are not on the side effects list of anything that has to do with this medication.

I have been on Wellbutrin 150 mg for about a year and a half now. I have noticed in my personality that although I used to be a very fun, loving and nice person, I now sit around not being funny and not being sad. Sad. All I can say is that I'm just there. Nothing matters to me. I could sit on the couch and watch TV 8 hours a day and not even care. I have no energy. I don't want to be around my friends. I don't want anybody to talk to me. I'm grumpy all the time. I just recently went in the hospital for 3 days because I developed transient globular amnesia. I lost all my memory, didn't know anything and said around repeating the same thing over and over and over again. I have also read where a lot of people are losing their hair. I have lost so much hair that I'm almost to the point where I have to get mine cut short. I also have tinnitus and my ears ring all the time. Reading all the above situations. I now start to believe that it could be from the Wellbutrin. I agree this is a very dangerous drug and no one should be taking it. But now I am left with not knowing how to get off of it. I know I can't get off cold turkey but if anyone knows how you can get off of it, I would like to know it. When I talk to my psychologist about it he tells me that Wellbutrin does not cause hair loss and he actually upped my dose to 300 mg which I could not take it absolutely drug me crazy. So I went back on the 150 mg and I'm going to get off of it. I don't know how because when I tell the doctor about this he just gives me a different antidepressant and tells me to take it along with the Wellbutrin which I did and I shook like I had Parkinson's disease so I got off of the the extra and it depressant and now I'm only on Wellbutrin. I can't sleep at night and I have to be on tiazepam every night to even sleep. I've tried to stop taking that but I get no sleep. It's just a tailspin to even get out of bed and try to live a normal life. I would like to be a part of the lawsuit if possible. I feel sorry for all the people who are in the same boat as I am because it's very hard to get off of a drug that you've been on for a while. It can have really serious side effects

Started Burpripion about 6 ago only at 150 ml has helped a tad but not like it was promised , I would not go up to 300 I hate taking meds period so they just added Lexepro 5ml … well the entire time on Wellbutrin I was losing hair , I was a hair designer I know hair … my hair is fine but have always been told “ Your hair is fine but you have tons of it , when I even twisted it up with a large clip I could barely get it in … OMG , my hair is coming out like crazy everyday . It is HALF as thick , my hairline has moved back and so much more receded .. it falls out in my clothing all day long , it is AWFUL . So I got a pharmacist to start a weening off program and I’m delighted . I’ve read where it comes back to normal most times within 3-6 months , however , if you experience this side effect and continue use , alopicia is permanent. Many of you may not have noticed this … you might want to start watching , not everyone does but this medication should be removed . Big Pharma will push anything and drs unfortunately listen to many … too much $$$ involved , we need each other to report our issues so we can all start watching for these until side effects .

I am thankful to have found this site. Have been on Bupropion extended release 300 mg for about 5 months and have been noticing increasing rate of hair loss (mid 40’s male) and have been dealing with unusual memory/word recall issues lately. Was starting to wonder if I was going to be an early Alzheimer case. Just recently have started wondering if the med is having side effects, and a Google search led me here. Bupropion did help me overcome a stretch of depression, but after reading others experiences, I plan to reduce my dose and get with my doc to work off it.

I am a pharmacist and started taking bupropion XL 300 mg in august of 2020. I was going through a really tough time with my partner and my son was recently diagnosed with a chronic condition that affected his cognitive abilities, so I had some symptoms of mild-moderate depression. It gave me energy and helped my depression symptoms. About 6 months after starting it I noticed that half my hair had fallen out and the texture of my hair was compromised. I had also lost 30lbd during that time. I researched it, and found some scientific journal articles that supported my hair being a side effect of bupropion. I brought it up to my doctor and she assured me that it was not the bupropion and it was the weight loss and my age (I was 39?) that had caused the hair loss. I have struggled with weight for most of my life and have lost that amount of weight in that amount of time in the past and my hair had never fallen out before. The documented percentage of slope is as an adverse reactions was less than 1%. Also I had not seen a lot of hair loss reported by my own patients. I was vulnerable and depressed so I stayed on the medication but lowered the dose 150mg.
I discontinued bupropion in December 2022 and my hair is growing back beautifully. After only 3 months of being off the medication my hair is close to the way it was before I started the medication. After my own experience and reading these other comments, it makes me question the validity of my sources. I believe that alopecia is happening to patients at a much higher rate than 1%. It also makes me angry that my doctor acted like I was stupid and crazy that I suggested that my hair loss was a side effect of this medication. I believe the adverse reactions of this medication should be re-evaluated.

I had a grand mail seizure after taking 300 mg of Wellbutrin for 2 days. Unfortunately I was driving a car at 65 mph on a highway with my 7 year old son in the back seat at the time. I don’t remember anything except waking up in a ditch with paramedics and bystanders hovering over me. I was never informed of the risks of this medication and with it having a seizure risk, this should NOT be in small print in the insert. This incident could have killed us both or others on the road that day. I did suffer a very serious ankle injury and couldn’t walk for 6 months, and my son had a concussion from the accident. Subsequently, I was unable to have an EEG performed at the hospital because their equipment was down. But the consensus of the medical staff as well as my prescribing doctor know it was a seizure caused by the Wellbutrin. I stopped it immediately and have never had one since, nor had I ever had a seizure prior to taking it. It needs to be taken off the market. There are plenty of other safer antidepressants out there available.

I’ve had an absolute hell experience with this drug. I’m 39 years old (healthy) and was at dinner, lost sensation of my some of my body and starting getting super dizzy and confused. I made a really bad move of trying to go home as I pretended I forgot something, not knowing what was happening to me and I lost complete control of my legs and arms and lost consciousness completely and snapped back into real life. My body was shaking and I felt like I died and came back to life. I was extremely lucky I was at a red light when it happened and my safety mechanism on my vehicle delayed me rolling through the light. At the time, I thought I had a stroke and my husband had to come get me. I was taken to ER and given every single test I could get. Everything came back normal. Nobody knew why the scariest thing that ever happened in my life, happened. I had been in Wellbutrin for almost a year at this point. After I was released, 2 weeks later… began to get normal “episodes” of attacks. Dizzy, loss of vision, hyperventilating etc. One more 911 call, another ER visit later… my neurologist called out the medication being the problem. Mind you I’ve been given a heart monitor, brain tested for days, taking my blood pressure while being attacked… So I started taking the meds less and less to see if the feeling of death would go away. Sure enough, the scary scary attacks stopped and I felt my vision go back to normal and could finally feel a sense of normalcy again. The drug almost killed me, scared my children when they saw me being attacked by the symptoms and calling 911, lives in sense of fear for weeks, embarrassed me in public when these episodes came out of nowhere. I cannot believe a drug like this is allowed to be legal.

I was in Wellbutrin XL for four days in august. I started feeling off about two days in but was told it takes some time for the drug to kick in. On the fourth day I started having involuntary muscle spasms
In my face, my neck and my body. They said it was an acute dystonic reaction and it would go away in a few days. It lasted a month and a half.
I wouldn’t wish it on an enemy. I was a
Perfectly healthy and active person and now it’s 4 months later and I’m still weak. Luckily the movements have stopped but I still have residual symptoms like back pain, headaches, weakness and numbness in my left hand.

This drug should be removed from the market. Do not take it!!

I do not have a seizure disorder, however, had a seizure three nights ago in front of my 14-year-old son. It has terrified him to no end, as well as me. I cannot work until that is figured out why I had the seizure, and I just got a phone call telling me to stop taking Wellbutrin from my neurologist because at 450 mg, it lowers your seizure threshold and you’re likely to have a seizure. This has ruined my life as I knew it. I cannot drive for 6 months. My son is terrified to be alone with me (rightfully so, I would be too). And not ONE person told me this was a side effect.

Since taking Bupropion I have been suicidal almost everyday. My self image was already bad and this drug has caused me to lose at least half of the amount of hair I had 6 months ago! My hair was thick and healthy and now it falling out in clumps. I’ve never felt more insecure, helpless and ugly.

I hope that I can find the lawyers for this lawsuit before it is too late.

I have been on Wellbutrin for over 8 years. I was on 300mg for over 6 years before scaling back to 150mg this year. I have been losing hair for years and I just thought it was stress even though I don’t have a stressful life. I didn’t realize it was Wellbutrin causing my hairloss until I ruled out everything else over the last 2 years. I have alopecia now and that doesn’t run in my family. I am tapering off of it and hoping that my hair will grow back.

My daughter was treated for anxiety and depression with Wellbutrin for 30 years. She passed away on August 26, 2019. Due to a seizure that triggered cardiac arrest per the medical examiner. She left behind two beautiful daughters ages 12 and 15 years old and a wonderful husband who is taking care of of my granddaughter’s.

Towards the end of my daughters life she told me that she felt like she was dying. I asked her what do you mean sweetheart? She told me she had been losing a lot of weight and felt like her body was deteriorating. The family and friends told me on many occasion occasions Julie would start shaking her entire body shaking and they thought it was a panic attack I believe it was mini seizures.

I’m hoping there’s some form of retribution against this manufacturer of Wellbutrin!,

Thank you,

Donna Raffaniello

Taking bupropion (Wellbutrin xl) for only a few days resulted in me having severe panic attacks resulting in ER visits; 3 ER visits over the course of 3 weeks. I never experienced panic attacks until taking this medication. Now I have thousands of dollars in medical bills and prolongs respiratory issues.

Tell your doctors that Wellbutrin CAN cause tinnitus, short-term memory loss, and issues with word recall; it does for me. I admit I’ve stopped and started a few times being desperate for dopamine motivation, and fortunately my memory returns and the ringing subsides each time. Maybe this will give someone hope, although I’m sure others could and do experience permanent issues. Here’s hoping that I go back to normal this time around. It aggravates me when I read that doctors say it doesn’t cause these side-effects; I am proof that it does. Just because they have an M.D. doesn’t mean they’re always the brightest crayons in the box, or the most informed.

I was on bupropion for about a year and a half. I remember having my first suicidal thought ever during that time... my hair began to fall out and it took a while to realize what was causing it and I stopped taking it. I had to cut my hair off it was so bad. It's been a year or more and it still falls out but not as bad. It's thin.

That's not the reason for this comment though.. I want to warn anybody taking this drug to be very careful. Stopping suddenly caused me to get excruciating, permanent tinnitus. It's so bad I cannot sit in a room without noise or sleep without music or ac. Its so loud and shrill!!! It has nearly ruined my life...oh and I have gained about 45 lbs as well. So I'm fat and bald and can't hear or remember anything. I'm a 36 year old female.

I also had a gran Mal seizure on two occasions when my dosage was upped and my memory is just that, a memory.

I actually felt drunk, under the influence for the 10 months I was on bupropion. I also developed a gambling addiction during my treatment, gambling was never an issue before taking bupropion and now that I have stopped taking this medicine the gambling issue has gone away. It's been a very expensive and disappointing ride while taking bupropion 9

I AM IN TEARS reading your comments!
It’s been over 15 years since I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia after ruling out everything else AND, ironically, hypothyroidism.
I tried ALL the natural remedies for pain and mood management with supplements, exercise and diet.
Then…I tried Big Pharma and it destroyed my life.
I was having severe, even life-threatening side effects so I was constantly changing prescriptions while my fibromyalgia symptoms worsened along with my physical and mental health not to mention the financial drain.
Finally I was put on Buroprion and started noticing severe insomnia, ridiculous brain fog, dysphasia, memory loss, (I see photos and have no idea where we were, etc.) muscle spasms, (I am always dropping things) stumbling, running into things, and episodes best described as petite mal seizures!
I DID have a 155 IQ and now I’m a blubbering idiot!
I told my doctors for 5 years that I was having these problems and all I got was…well…you’re just getting old bullshit! Never did they associate it with the pharmaceuticals they prescribed!
Finally, after all those years of suffering, I tapered myself off the drug in December of 2021. But the condition is now permanent and all my doctor can recommend is…YOU GUESSED IT…more pharmaceuticals!!!
And to think…all I might have really needed was to monitor my thyroid versus all the Psychotropic Drugs they handed out like candy!

I started taking 150mg and didn’t see any significant changes - good or bad. My doc increased my dose to 300mg along with 25mg of Zoloft. I had the opposite normal reactions to both meds - Zoloft fired me up and made me loose weight and Wellbutrin made me tired and sluggish. After about 75 days on the 300mg of Wellbutrin, I noticed big clumps of hair falling out in the shower. I didn’t think much about it at first but then it was increasing and I was finding hair everywhere. I had super thick hair but I’ve lost about 50% of my hair and it’s stressing me out more. I saw my doc on Tuesday to have a Thyroid Cascade - results came back normal so that is not to blame. I stopped taking Wellbutrin cold turkey yesterday - otherwise, I would be bald in a month. I do not recommend Wellbutrin at all and this med has significantly made my life worse rather than improved.

I was elevated to 450 mg per day.
When I told my dr. Psychiatrist he totally rejected that was the cause.

I'm going down & OFF this drug and going cold turkey...or I will endup BALD.

i was on (generic) Wellbutrin for 18months. physically i slowly lost about 60 percent of my hair. It is very long and thick so it took me about 7 months to really notice the thinning, however was told it was a very typical side effect… fast forward to 18months and I had lost almost all of my hair. Mentally i was numb and I couldn’t focus at all. Sure I wasn’t sad but I had zero emotions, care, or concern for anything. All symptoms started off so minor and with any medication you want to give it time. However after 18 months I had to quit taking it.

I'm so happy to have found this forum/page w.e you want to call it. I thought I was crazy, to the point I was ready to commit myself to a psych ward. The past 2-3 months I haven't felt ""right", dizzy, walking around in a daze, almost in an out of body type feeling. I'm a different person, I get extremely frustrated and angry over absolutely nothing. I am sad and crying over everything. I have little to no interest in anything. I truly believed it was "depression". The last month or so (I can't remember honestly) I literally can NOT hold a conversation without forgetting what I am saying or what the person is saying. I doze off or loose focus in seconds and it's frustrating. It has gotten 100x worse since increasing my dose from 150mg once a day to 300mg a days. I have terrible headaches, I get hot and cold sweats, hard to sleep. So many other things that I never knew we're related until reading everyone else's stories. :( I will be discontinuing this drug immediately!
If anyone is reading this PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THIS!!! BUPROPPRION SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM ALL PHARMACIES AND BE IllEGAL!!!

I was prescribed Wellbutrin immediately after I had my daughter for my postpartum depression and as soon as I started taking it I started to feel delusional, seeing ghosts in my home, demons talking to me and the scariest part was my increased thoughts hurting myself and my new baby. Felt buzzing in my brain, couldn’t concentrate and had trouble talking. When I originally spoke to my doctor about my feeling of sadness due to hormones and inability to sleep. I was diagnosed with PPD and was never ever even close to having the mindset I had while on this medication. The absolute worst experience in my life.

It is now about to be July 2021 and a couple months ago I thought i was going crazy thinking my hairline was receeding. I have been taking Wellbutrin XL for 5.5 months. Started on 150mg and noticed intermittent ringing in my ears but didn't think about it being a side effect of the medication. My dose was increased two weeks ago and about a week ago my ringing got worse. I thought it was a head cold but it isn't getting better. My doctor is discontinuing use of the medication and I hope that the ringing goes away. I am very upset that something that is life altering could be a side effect without any indication of this being a permanent issue. This drug needs to be discontinued.

I was prescribed Wellbutrin to help me quit smoking, as it was very challenging for me. I took it for about 1 month, then 1 every other day for another month. I noticed right away my inability to sleep so my doc slowly took me off it. I have not slept regularly since 2009. I have had to be on ambien. I quit the ambien because it stopped working (which it never did work very well anyway). I have done everything I've been told to do to help me sleep, I truly believe and have believed for 11 years that Wellbutrin is the cause.

I never had a seizure in my life. In 2013 I was put on Wellbutrin and a yr later taken off it. About a few weeks of stopping this drug I started having severe seizures while asleep. And sometimes multiple in a night. I thought it would be a temporary side effect, however it's now been 6 yrs and I still have them all the time. I have been put on keppra to treat the seizures. Please do not take or recommend this drug to anyone. The consequences of taking it are far worse than the help they say it provides. I am looking to join any class action suit that others are part of so that the pharmaceutical company can pay for the damages Wellbutrin has caused to me and others.

I have been on bupropion for 6 years. During this time my depression worsened. Through this period of time, my entire personality has changed. Many friends and family members commented. I couldn’t explain it but felt my zest for social activities, being a great employee, great friend, responsible fun-loving self began to disappear. I became an angry agitated negative person. Eventually I couldn’t get out of bed, would go days without eating and sometimes without showering. I became extremely isolated and lonely. After one of my dogs passed unexpectedly in September my gradual downward spiral accelerated overnight. My crying angriness became so great I didn’t want to leave my bed or open my eyes. I was also incredibly anxious throughout the use of this product. My doctor recommended I take 300mg vs 150mg and I did so for a month. I developed the worst headaches of my life, started having tremors, constant sweating, thirst and further depression/anxiety. A couple of nights ago,I was sleeping and suddenly felt like someone laid on me and was choking me. My arms and legs began to shake uncontrollably and I couldn’t open my eyes. I truly thought someone was trying to kill me. After about 20 to 30 seconds the shaking stopped and I was able to open my eyes to find no one in my room. This scared the living crap out of me. My dr has me weening back to 150 for 2 weeks, then I will go down to 75 for 2 weeks and am getting off of this poison. In retrospect my life started falling apart right when I started this medication. It wasn’t until the impact of the increased dosage that I realized it was bupropion changing who I was. I could literally feel like my brain was changing but chalked it up to perimenopause. I pray to God my life begins to improve once I get off of the drug. I feel like 6 years of my life have been miserable and stolen from me. For those that got off of the drug, please tell me if your life reverted back to a time when you were your old self. I am extremely worried I have damaged my brain. I work in IT and cannot retire at 50. I cannot believe my doctor did not worn me as to the possibility of the side effects I have experienced. I don’t know if what I had was a seizure or what but it scared me enough to question taking this stuff. Now that I am weening back down my headache is even worse and I too have blurred vision and tremors. I want to be able to feel happy again, be able to think straight again, and to get my life back. Very angry I had to go through this as it wasn’t necessary.

I've been taking buproprion SR (generic Wellbutrin) for 3 weeks and have been having massive hair loss! It's scary and I'm praying my hair grows back when I stop taking this drug.

I began using Buproprion several months ago, and in the last couple of months, My Dr. Upped the dose.. I started experiencing a high level of confusion, dizziness, not being able to put sentences together, not being able to remember what I just said, not understanding what others were talking about, and if they were asking a question, and answered , I couldn't remember what the question was. I realized all the sudden this week, that my subscription to biproprion was the only thing that had changed. I have weened myself of this, this week, and immediately started feeling better, remembering things, no dizziness, etc. I am highly upset that I was subjected to this kind of side effects, and felt I had lost my mind.
Please, put me on whatever class action lawsuit, Buproprion is involved in.. It is horrific. I don't want anyone else to experience what I had to endure.
Thank you in advance for your help.

I started Wellbutrin XL in April 2019. By June I had developed severe Tinnitus In both ears. I was told to stay on meds. By end of July it had started to effect my daily life. My PCP was worried and sent me to an Ear Specialist. I tested at 35% deaf, in both ears. Even the ENT said he had started seeing this more with patients on Wellbutrin. I have since been taken off, but still having chronic Tinnitus with no relief. I am a very healthy, 33 yo female, never been on any medication, no medical history, no health issues until this. Now I have lost my hearing and suffering in daily struggles to hear and cope with this issue. I return in 3 months for a follow up hearing test and will pursue more options then, hopefully.

Reconcider before taking this drug. IMO, they are going to find out that it is way too high of doses, even at the lowed doses from thier discovering that it was way too high a dose.
I never had a seizure in my life I have had over 5 since starting and stopping this drug.

I started Wellbutrin as a mood stabilizing drug in 2007 and I started having seizures. These seizures have ruined my life to where I can't drive anymore. My memory is ruined. I can't even work anymore. At least I finished undergraduate. This drug needs to be off the market bc it is doing much more harm to many people, than good. Especially when it comes to a person who lives with seizures who depend on others for their safety.

I have been taking wellbrutrin xl since 2009, and in 2017 i developed blood clots in my kidneys. However, I started having several other issues such as, problems with my GI, dizziness, muscle and bone pain, and other issues. I am currently seeing 5 different specialists for all of these issues. Moreover, I have been recently diagnosed with an undifferentiated connective tissue disease, an unknown autoimmune disease, Protein S deficiency, and have tested positive for many factors that leads to having Lupus. I know that I was not born with any of these problems, and this all came on suddenly after I had a vasa previa with a pregnancy. I just recently found out that i was pregnant, and yesterday at * weeks pregnant I was told that my baby didnt have a heartbeat anymore. One Dr. said it could have been because of the autoimmune disease, so of course I looked into how I could have gotten this in the first place since i have been healthy all of my life. I found out that some autoimmune diseases can be drug induced; such as (DILE). I checked to see which medications can be a factor, and found that Wellbrutrin is the main anti-depressant that is linked to drug induced autoimmune diseases. I am convinced that this is the culprit, and am looking for help in filing a lawsuit.

I was prescribed wellbutrin for depression. I took this medication for only a few weeks. My hearing began to suffer, with Tinnitus. I stopped taking it but my hearing has not returned to normal. The noise is driving me mad.

I had Surgery on My sphincter muscle in February of this year. The drug ate through the lining of my stomach. I was in so much pain. Then I started refluxing really bad. It was coming out my nose in the middle of the night. There were times I lost the feeling to swallow my food. This drug destroyed me in 5 months.

I just had my last follow up appt. with the doctor last week and then last night I went to eat supper and my first 2 bites were good. After that I couldn't swallow again. I go for a upper GI test next week.

I'm trying to find a Lawyer that will take my case.

I have been taking wellbutrin for about 2 years. I have never gambled in my life, except maybe quarter slots in Vegas a few times. Between September 2017 and April 2018, I gambled away about $95,000 at a local casino in Washington state. I lost everything we had and we had to file bankruptcy and ended up homeless. We're still trying to get back on our feet. I have always been careful with money, never late paying bills, coupon clipping etc. This was so out of character for me and I'm sick everyday just thinking about it. I know this happened because of this medication after reading so many stories like mine. I want to be part of any lawsuit regarding this. This medication ruined my life and my family relationships.

I was recently prescribed this medication for smoking cessation, within a few days of taking it I started having very vivid nightmares to the point that it had made me paranoid of going to sleep.
I feel like I am awake but not sure if I am or not. It first started as though feeling like someone set on my bed behind me and was lightly touching me, now I just feel like there is someone in the bedroom when I go to bed, even tiny troll figures in my bed raising the cover and running under it when I wake my husband because he thinks I am just making it up....
Very confused

My husband had hallucinations 3 or 4 times a week for almost 2 years. He would get up in the middle of the night thinking someone was in the bedrooom, or snakes all over the floor, or giant bugs in the bed, or people climbing in the window, or fighting “someone” in the bathroom, or running downstairs thinking he was after an intruder.

I learned that a friend had taken Wellbutrin and suffered permanent cognitive damage such that he could no longer perform his job as an IT at GSK and had to retrain as a peer mentor making less than a fifth of what he had been earning. He still had damaging effects 8 years later.

It destroyed our marriage. He suffer paranoia and never told his psychiatrist about any of these symptoms. The paranoia was a particularly bizarre side effect. He honestly believed I was the reason for his angry outbursts AND his hallucinations at night. He said his stressful job was causing the hallucinations night too.

He became extremely violent, and choked me, entirely cutting off my airway, and later jumped out of the shower, landing on me, causing my head to slam against the bathroom counter. I suffered a contusion and painful bruises on both the front and back of my right ear that lasted for a month.

I hold GSK 100% responsible for destroying his life and our marriage. There’s so much more...it was truly a travesty.

OMG ! After reading the extensive comments, I broke down in tears, because I have experienced ALL of the same symptoms ! I am the very bad bloating, the ringing in my ears so bad I can't sleep at night ! I have problems with my vision and I was not understanding why ! The compulsive spending is so out of control, I now live with a house full of stuff, most I don't need, but I keep buying, so much so the delivery drivers make jokes, saying I must be loaded with money, clearly I am not, I realize there is a issue when I keep spending and but not even opening the packages ! I can't stop to the point my anxiety levels are off the chart!
I went into counseling when it got to the point I started to feel so beat up and tired, I could barely get out of bed to function ! I can't just have regular portions of food anymore, I eat until there is no more. I can't eat just cereal bar anymore, I eat several until the compulsion is satisfied ! I don't recognize who I see in the mirror anymore ! I stay so bloated, my stomach rubs the steering wheel when I drive ! You should not have to get excited at the fact, you can finally go to the bathroom, but I do because my constipation is so severe. Right now life is passing me by because feel to tired and bloated to do anything. I eat fresh fruits and leafy vegetables, but not helps. I am not living right now, I am existing and miserable. Financially almost bankrupt almost, but I cannot control this compulsion for more.

I've recently started taking this drug. I have severe tinnitus. My doctor keeps insisting it is not a side effect. How can he say that when it clearly is? I am so upset and feel totally betrayed. Today I saw the doctor. He told me same line, keep taking the meds etc. I have thrown them in the bin. I have not been taking anti depressants very long. Maybe like 2 months. Will it go away????? I thought I had issues before this, my life was amazing before this. I was just too attached to my pain to see that. Never again will I take anti depressants. Never

I was prescribed Bupropion for a couple of months. After taking them for about two weeks, I developed a rash, swelling hand, face, and tongue. I went to the emergency room, having a hard time breathing. There they administered antihistamines, I now have Tinnitus, hearing loss, and dizziness. This has been ongoing for 8 months.

I was prescribed Bupropion about 5-6 years ago. I took first pill on a Friday come next morning I felt as if I was beaten with a bat for days. I couldn't move, my muscles were so tight and painful. To the point that I couldn't even pick up my 1.5 year old baby. On the Sunday after, I started feeling my body really hot, as if I was having a severe hot flash. Then I started getting very itching all over, went to the bathroom and saw this red enormous hives. I had them on my privates, my buttocks, everywhere. I immediately went to the ER, they said(as expected) that it had no relation to the Bupropion and gave me benadryl. Come Monday I went to see the doctor, he as well said it had no relation and gave me muscle relaxers; of course they did nothing. I stopped taking the meds even though I knew my depression was going from bad to worse. About 3-4 years ago and after finally admitting to myself that my depression was not letting me live, It was affecting me in every way. I decided to seek help, I talked to my Dr. Told her about my experience with Bupropion and made sure she understood that I would not take anything that tempered or made me gain weight. Just thinking about it it gives me anxiety and weight gain is a constant worry and battle for me as I also have a compulsive eating disorder. She prescribed wellbutrin xl 150mg and 300mg after seeing no changes with lower dose. My insurance wouldn't cover the brands $1500 cost for 30 pills(of course.) I had to talk to the insurance company to see if they would override the denial. I had to give them a very good reason why I couldn't take the generic forms, so I told them my experience with the other antidepressants. I had to speak to do many individuals and finally one(a chemist or something like that) said you have a sensitivity if not an allergy to the generic components of the medication. Remember everyone tells you generic is exactly the same thing as brand, that is BS! Companies are mandated to replicate meds 99.9% of the formulation but they have that .1% to add ????? and no one tells you this. I was approved, thank God! I have been taking it ever since. Every time I see my Dr. She asks if I feel it working but I am not sure on what to answer because I am not sure what I am supposed to feel ????????. After taking it for about two years I believe, I went on a vacation and did not take them with me because refill did not arrive on time. A couple of days after I noticed I wasn't feeling bloated, like an inflated balloon and every time I pressed on my tummy it kind of hurt. I would have to massage my tummy (counterclockwise around bellybutton, that stimulates bowel movement and/or colon) in oder to get some relief. I am not fat not have a belly, I actually had a tummy tuck years prior to taking the meds and had a flat belly, exercised regularly and ate a pretty healthy diet. And I started having my normal bowel movements. For me that was going #2 three times a day and comfortably; meaning I didn't have to push and push or be in pain because you have to defecate but can't(sorry, too much info I know.) I have never suffered from constipation or anything like that. My belly was less inflated and less pressure pain when pressing down. Even though I had experienced this for a while never related to wellbutrin. I thought maybe I was not drinking enough water or eating enough fiber. I was off the medication for about a month, when I started taking them again the bloated belly and costipation started again????. Now during all this time I had not noticed or didn't pay attention to these noises in my ears. I can't pin point when they stated but I can say it hasn't been a life long thing. I took notice or they became more noticeable within her last two years or so. It's awful to have the ringing, buzzing, vibration, humming, crickets, static white noise loud inside your head all day long. I am trying to fall asleep and all I can hear is that. I wake up exhausted, I'm irritable, edgy, anxious etc. All day and quite frankly I know is due to that. Never mentioned it to my Dr because I was afraid to be labeled as schizophrenic or something. But it has become so unbearable and affecting my life that I finally did but she didn't really say much about it. So as I usually do, I researched and researched and finally came across tinnitus. I was so happy to finally put a name to those annoying noises and to reassure myself that I wasn't making it up. I went to a clinic which specializes in tinnitus, the Dr asked a bunch of questions, did a very in depth hearing test and confirmed that I had tinnitus. She said there's really no cure for it but that there is this new treatment they are doing with very good results to minimize the noises. It's basically an ipod(kind of) they have this app or program which they can manage to mimic as close as possible to the noises you hear. They transfer that to the ipod and you listed to that at a certain level every night. She herself is a tinnitus sufferer and was on the treatment for abt 3 weeks. She said she was real happy because there were moments where she had to stop to see if she'd hear the noises. She was happy to say that she wouldn't hear them and the relief it was to not have them. Now, the price is almost $6000.00????and it is not covered by insurance! Now, to the point. It sucks and is so unfair and unethical to say the least that we look for help to cure if not at least help us cope with an illness such as depression and end up with something to me worse, like tinnitus. I say worse because tinnitus causes anxiety, depression, mood swings, lethargy or exhaustion etc. etc. Exactly the same issues we are trying to cure and for which we were prescribed Wellbutrin in the first place. What sucks even more is that no one tells you it can cause this. Not the pharmaceutical company, not your Dr, pharmacy.... NO ONE! And that you can loose your hearing from prolonged untreated tinnitus.. I hope the lawsuit is true and still going. I know no one forced us into taking the darn pill but we should know all side effects, especially when they know is not just one person saying this, it's many if us. And I sure don't have $6000.00 to spend on an ipod. They should pay for the damage done because damage can be irreversible even if we stop taking the medication. Who can we contact? It the lawsuit still active?

I came across this and wanted to find out if some of my issues are caused by this medication that I took from 1998- 2012. Suicidle attempts, not rationale thoughts. My blood work was always questioned. I have lost my memory. My liver panel is always questioned... I seem to know have nodules in my thyroid. I could go on if I could remember more...
But very interested to find out if there is anything I can do?

I would really like to know why Minnesota because I've been on this medicine for about ten yrs. The Dr never listened to me about the effects it had. I even had surgery on my left ulner nerve for losing use of my fingers, hand. I haven't been able to work or function normally for yrs. My eye sight has gotten really bad, have a really hard time driving at night but I always had 20/20 vision. I even ran my car off the road. No energy, memory loss has gotten worst all the time, things that came easy to me before are like new things I haven't learned before, I feel like a complete dizzy case. Tremors I've had for awhile now, my spending put me homeless. I use to run a cleaning business that I couldn't imagine doing now & was very good at it! Please tell me why Minnesota is not in this lawsuit when it's affected my life so rapidly? I've been disabled for yrs, have had to get social services involved in my life to hello keep me in a house, not homeless. please help me also.

Dewana Young, I feel and personally know your pain. Stop it now. Get off now. I end up homeless for two years. I went from $100K salary, workers' comp injury. 10 years of medication has cost me everything. My business, my condo. I had $250K in the bank 3 years ago. Now, I have nothing. The shopping was out of control. I couldn't stop. It WAS NOT ME. I use to manage huge financial projects, a genius with financials. Saved the City of Oakland thousands but suddenly I couldn't remember when I last used my credit card. My FICO is in the trash. I'm ruined. And the doctors could CARE LESS. If you have good one, hold on, if not, jump ship and find someone who will care whether you actually have a quality of life. If there's a class action sign me up. I'm tired of being a guinea pig. I'm still detoxing so forgive me if the sentences are flowing but the words are true.

I have been on Wellbutrin for years. I have developed symptoms similar to Parkinson's. Been to Neuromuscular Specialist at Mayo Clinic and Houston. No genetic disease but Was told it may be my medication and Mayo was concerned about Wellbutrin. After getting off all medications for 3 weeks my tremors decreased tremendously and my cognitive issues were improving. I introduced Wellbutrin first and was in a seizure like state, tremors and neuro problems became back worse. I quit after second dose. I have neuro muscular damage affecting all parts of my body. I live on pain meds daily. I have almost lost my personal business and am trying to sell. I've. basically become disable and can't function as a business owner, wife or mother. I'm 53 and my who world has stopped. I wonder if I have a claim. I only see claims for pregnant people. I have lost so much. Depleted savings. Husband has had to pull out of his retirement to help pay expenses. All because this medicine has damaged my neuromuscular system and only doctor/facility who half way regognized Wellbutrin could be causing and have caused damage is Mayo and I can't afford to go back for several weeks like they requested. They don't know if permanent and won't know as it may take years for my body to heal itself. Any help for me?
