Current and former Bay Meadows Race Course employees filed a class action lawsuit against the company who merged with Patriot American Hospitality which was recently sold to the Blackstone Group. The plaintiffs were all shareholders in the California Jockey Club and claimed Patriot misled them during the time leading up to the merger. "They further alleged that Patriot proposed the merger to take advantage of a unique tax break available to the California Jockey Club as part of a grandfathered tax clause, and then deliberately engaged in risky debt acquisition that eventually resulted in huge stock losses." A United States District Judge has approved a $12.65 million class action settlement. (Oct-20-05) [SAN FRANCISCO EXAMINER]
