A $3.5 million settlement has been reached and given preliminary approval in the class action lawsuit filed against Fleet Financial, a unit of FleetBoston Financial Corp. The suit was filed on behalf of more than 2 million Fleet credit cardholders who accused the company of improperly charging late fees. The settlement involves the three lawsuits filed in Louisiana, California and Rhode Island, and the final hearing to approve the settlement will be held in November. (Aug-07-03)
