A $112 million settlement has been approved in the class action lawsuit filed against GIO General Limited of Australia on behalf of investors. The suit was filed by more than 23,000 former GIO shareholders regarding AMP's rejected 1998 takeover bid for GIO. The plaintiffs will receive an average of $3,000 to $4,000 each in the largest settlement of its kind in Australia. (Aug-27-03)
