Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.

Danville, VA: The US Department of Labor filed a class action lawsuit against the tire company regarding discriminatory hiring practices at the Virginia plant. The class was filed on behalf of nearly 800 women who were allegedly denied tire building jobs from January 1998 to June 1999. The lawsuit alleged Goodyear followed hiring process and selection procedures that discriminated against hundreds of female applicants for entry level positions on the basis of gender. Goodyear denied any discrimination or wrongdoing, but has agreed to a $925,000 class action settlement. (Jan-17-07) [BEACON JOURNAL: GOODYEAR DISCRIMINATION SETTLEMENT]
