IDT Corporation

Newark, NJ: IDT saw a countrywide, calling card class action lawsuit related to claims concerning its prepaid and rechargeable calling card disclosures and tariffs. IDT agreed to provide refund PINs worth up to $20 million to eligible consumers of IDT calling cards for domestic telephone calls and rechargeable calling cards. IDT also agreed to revise the disclosures contained on its calling cards and to propose a uniform calling card regulation to the New Jersey Attorney General's Office. Supplementing that, it has agreed to make $2 million donations to charitable organizations such as educational scholarships. This settlement ends all of the companies' pending lawsuits. The settlement includes IDT denial of any wrongdoing or liability. (Jan-25-07) [BUSINESS WIRE: IDT CALLING CARDS]

I am now suddenly informed (after using this card for years, and recently recharding it) that I will be charged a minimum of 40 minutes for making each call. At 3 cents per minute, this is $1.20 just to make a 1 minute call- nothing close to the 3 cents advertised. I would never have purchased the card if I was aware the company could change their policy after they took my money. Is this legal? And is this company legally obligated to refund my money upon my request?
