Insurance Credit

Muscogee County, GA: (Nov-01-07) A class action lawsuit was brought against JMIC Life Insurance Company, filed by Ken Toole in January 2003, which claimed Toole was entitled to get a refund on an unearned car insurance premium that the company did not pay. Records show that the suit was granted class action status in August 2005. Sources claimed that credit life insurance is purchased to protect the creditor and borrower, and if the borrower dies, the insurance company pays off the car loan. A vast majority of credit insurance is prepaid in one premium, and many are paid off early.

As part of a settlement reached, the civil insurance case ended with the company agreeing to pay $45 million to resolve it. It is estimated that over 770,000 people in the class stand to benefit from the payout. The checks will be disbursed after Muscogee County Superior Court Judge Doug Pullen hears from the plaintiffs and those who object to the settlement. [LEDGER ENQUIRER: INSURANCE CREDIT]
