LCD Makers Agree $21M Settlement in Oregon Price-Fixing Lawsuit

This is a settlement for the Antitrust lawsuit.

Los Angeles, CA: A $21 million settlement has been reached in an antitrust class action lawsuit pending against Hitachi, Epson, LG, Sharp, Samsung, AU Optronics, Toshiba among others. The lawsuit, brought by the state of Oregon in 2006, claimed that the defendants engaged in price-fixing of liquid crystal display products.

The settlement motion would end the California multi-district litigation brought by the Oregon Attorney General. Under the terms, LG Display agrees to pay $6.97 million, the largest share, followed by Samsung and AUO at $4.5 million. Many of the defendant companies have gradually reached settlements with direct purchaser and indirect purchaser classes as well as state prosecutors. According to court documents, Oregon joins Arkansas, California, Florida, Michigan, Missouri, New York, West Virginia and Wisconsin in reaching a settlement with the LCD makers.

The individual case is State of Oregon et rel. Ellen F. Rosenblum v. AU Optronics Corporation et al., case number 3:10-cv-04346 and the MDL is In Re: TFT-LCD (Flat Panel) Antitrust Litigation, case number 3:07-md-01827, both in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.
