A $1.1 billion settlement has been given preliminary approval in a class action lawsuit filed against Microsoft Corp. claiming that the company overcharged California consumers for Windows software. Under the terms of settlement, consumers and corporations in California who purchased Windows between Feb. 18, 1995 and Dec. 15, 2001 may qualify for vouchers ranging in value from $5 to $29 which may be used to buy hardware or software products from any manufacturer.
