Outback Steakhouse Settles Discrimination Class Action for $19 Million

This is a settlement for the Discrimination lawsuit.

Washington, DC: A class action lawsuit filed against the Outback Steakhouse has reached a settlement, with the restaurant chain reportedly agreeing to pay $19 million to settle allegations of sexual discrimination.

The suit represents thousands of female workers employed at steak houses across the US.

The suit was filed by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in 2006, over allegations that female employees couldn't get promoted up the ranks of management to profit-sharing positions, nor were they considered for favorable job assignment such as kitchen management positions.

Under the terms of the settlement, the $19 million will be distributed among the women who have worked at corporately owned Outbacks for at least three years since 2002. Letters will be sent to them telling them of the settlement.

I'm an overnight associate for Wal-Mart and my issue is nerve racking. I was lied to by the manager that I had to do something that was outside my job description. I was constantly bothered & told that I had to do it because every associate will but still I'm the only. Not only that, when things go bad I get written up for something I wasn't trained properly to perform & hired to do. All of this happen because I put in my vacation which I was rejected days & approved days so I asked more about it & went to higher authority to get my days approved. They have a policy that you can take all of your PTO all at once but I was denied & told I can't take all of mines. I know other associates who have taken more days then I got approved for. I had this other situation when the manager said I was lying to him about stealing time & threatening to terminate me but I told him to run his cameras back because I wasn't I fell to sleep in the break room on break. The cameras get ran back so I get called to the office & basically told that I'm not in trouble I wasn't stealing time & I'm not getting wrote up just watch myself. No apology or nothing. All that happen because I put in my transfer I'm still waiting for. Something got to be done.
