R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. et al.

A U.S. District Court Judge has dismissed a lawsuit seeking reparations for slavery. The defendants included 17 companies with Triad operations, such as R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., Reynolds American Inc., Lorillard Tobacco, Loews Corp., and Bank of America. Plaintiffs tried to file a class action lawsuit in 2002 seeking restitution and punitive damages from the companies that operated while slavery was legal, before and during the Civil War.
