Social Security Loses Class Action, Will Pay $500 Million in Benefits

August 12 2009

A preliminary $500 million settlement has been reached in the class action lawsuit brought against the US Social Security Administration, over allegations that the administration "unlawfully" withheld benefits from 80,000 eligible recipients.

The settlement, if approved, will result in thousands of people finally receiving benefits after having them suspended or denied beginning in January 2007.

I filed for Social Security Disability in May 2007 after becoming disabled via a work related injury and constant toxin exposure. My State job forced me to retire via accidental disability September 2008. After several years of being denied SSA DI, I was finally awarded DI benefits but were only made retroactive to May 2012. 2012 is the year my son turned 18. I received notice of the Administrative Judge's decision in December 2014. I began receiving benefits in May 2015 but have yet to receive the retroactive lump sum back pay.I have been diagnosed with Bio-toxin Associated Illness, lymphodema, fibromyalgia, 3 cervical disc herniations with compression, 3 lumbar disc herniations with compression and arthritis, depression, anxiety, PTSD, severe whole body edema, severely diminished immune system and metabolism.
