A class action lawsuit has been filed against the Cook County Department of Corrections on behalf of mentally ill inmates who are incarcerated at the Cook County Jail. The suit was filed by disability rights advocates, and alleges violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act and the 14th Amendment. The suit claims that mentally ill inmates are denied access to substance abuse programs, are barred from participating in various supervised community release programs, and are released into the community without any arrangement for access to necessary medication or mental health services. The lead defendants named in the case are John Stroger, the President of the Cook County Board, and Michael Sheahan, the Sheriff of Cook County. This suit was filed against the Cook County Department of Corrections on behalf of mentally ill inmates, alleging breaches of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

on july 31st of 2015 , i had a stroke while in custody , after being transported 6 hrs away for a court apperance { child support } , in Chesapeake Va ,, i have All Medical records stating elevated b/p @ time of intake 185/99 documents pertaining to medical transport meds wasnt transported with me ,, intake nurse notes stating meds were not needed @ time of intake with my b/press @ 185/99 .. still no meds . put in holding cell 5hrs then 2 'classification" over night ,, still no meds @ roughly 7-8that morning i had the stroke ,, while in custody @ the hospital (6 day stay ) i was released from custody by CHESAPEAKE VA , captian of Police ,, stateing that they could not hold me on a cival complaint ,, leaving me 6hrs plus away from home/family ...
