A hiring site which was shutdown by the village of Mamaroneck has brought about a class action lawsuit in U.S. District Court in White Plains, claiming the village violated day laborers' freedoms of speech and assembly by trying to deter them from soliciting work. Laborers congregated in the village park to seek jobs from contractors driving by. Police officers discouraged laborers and the village has closed the entire site.
