Hewlett-Packard Co.

A class action lawsuit has been certified against the computer company alleging Compaq Computer sold PCs with defective floppy disk drives and failed to fulfill their warranty obligations. The lawsuit was filed in the Supreme Court on behalf of 1.7 million people with defective Compaq computers. The case alleges that Compaq Computer Corp. sold defective computers and did not repair or replace them, as called for in the company's warranty.

The lawsuit was originally filed in 2003 in the state of Oklahoma. It was granted class action status in 2005 and Hewlett-Packard appealed the decision. The US Supreme Court has since dismissed the request and certified the case as a class action. Hewlett-Packard Co. acquired Compaq Computer Co. in 2002.
