Main Street Textiles

A class action lawsuit has been filed against Main Street Textiles and its parent company, Joan Fabrics Corp., on behalf of former employees. The suit alleges that the company violated state and federal laws by failing to compensate most of its work force with back pay and benefits after deciding to permanently discontinue its manufacturing operations in Fall River last October.

According to the plaintiff's attorney, "since the company employed more than 100 workers, it was required to adhere to the requirements of the federal WARN (Workers Adjustment and Retraining Notification) Act and applicable state law." The WARN Act requires employers to give employees 60 days advance written notice of any plant closing or mass layoff that results in an employment loss if they make up at least a third of the active work force, or if the shutdown will result in an employment loss of 50 or more employees during any 30-day period.
