Nassau, NY

A class action lawsuit has been filed against the county alleging Nassau's rent guidelines board failed to observe proper procedure when it authorized rent hikes on thousands of apartments for the period October 2005 through September 2006. Landlords across the county have been collecting higher rents in violation of New York's Emergency Tenants Protection Act. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of more than 10,000 tenants whose rent was increased up to 7 percent.
