Salinas Valley based Nunes Co. has voluntarily recalled 8,500 cartons of lettuce crop after finding E. coli in a sample of irrigation water. Although no signs of contamination were found on lettuce itself, tests found the potentially deadly bacteria in water from a reservoir used for irrigating the crop. Foxy brand green leaf lettuce went to retailers in California, Arizona, Nevada, Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana as well as to distributors that may have passed it along to restaurants.
