A class action lawsuit has been filed against the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement Board in regards to the transfer of benefits from the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement to another pension plan under the Multi-Lateral Portability Agreement. The suit was filed on behalf of all those who terminated their membership in the OMERS Plan after January 1, 2000 and elected to transfer their benefits under the OMERS Plan to another pension plan under the Agreement. The suit alleges that the OMERS board did not provide the full value of OMERS Plan benefits to the members of the proposed class, and that this constituted a breach of fiduciary and contractual obligations to the members.
