This suit is for Virginia and North Carolina peanut farmers only.

A breach of contract class action suit has been filed by Virginia and North Carolina peanut farmers protesting a contract change that reduced the amount of crop insurance they will get from this year's crop from 31 cents a pound to 17.75 cents a pound.

To be involved in the lawsuit, farmers must "opt-in'' before the end of December 2002. The fee for farmers to join the suit is $1 for every acre on which they grow peanuts. Boyce said he also plans to seek an injunction prohibiting the government from forcing the farmers to settle for the lower price.
